Ladies, I have just been looking at some of your beautiful, inspirational blogs and I see that many cook liturgically in their home for their family. Some books have been listed in these blogs.

Can I ask what books you use in the home that you highly recommend for this sort of cooking and why?

I would like to do this in our home as we have never really done this sort of thing before - it all sounds wonderful!

Wow, Anne, with all you do liturgically you mean there's no cooking there? That's my first step in celebrating, because I know we're going to eat that day for sure.

I don't have time to link all of them right now, as I'm packing to leave for the weekend, but here's a short list. There are many others I refer to, but these are my favorites.

#1 favorite Cooking for Christ by Florence Berger
A Continual Feast by Evelyn Vitz
Cooking with the Saints by Ernst Schuegraf (sp)

Also www.domestic-church.com, the Fourniers have some books that include recipes.

One more thing.

Here's why Cooking for Christ is my favorite.

And why do I do liturgical cooking? Because through food I can use symbolism, culture, history and catechesis in all different varieties through the foods I serve at the table. Meals are natural conversation starters...perfect place to start discussing the saint or feast of the day, the connections with the food, etc.

And it's been done through the centuries...I'm not the original. I like that I'm in touch with Catholics before me in cooking for the feasts. It's very CATHOLIC as in the UNIVERSAL definition.

Thank you, thank you Jenn! Your site was one that I remember well and it was that in particular that has inspired me to start doing this for ourselves.

Sadly I seemed to have missed the boat on the cooking thing!

My parents were very liturgically minded in so much but when it came to food it was (vegemite sandwiches for lunch

) chops and sausages, mash potatoes & vege and casseroles and that was about it! So I find it hard to think outside my own experience, but I want to.

Sigh!....that all sounds so wonderful! I think what has also acted as a trigger for me, is Anna (Fountain Resources) in Australia who supplies all us mums over here with all the best of Catholic books, says she has always lived like this since she was a little child, she is originally from Italy and it just the way life was lived, so to do otherwise would seem strange....it sounds similar to what you are saying.

You have given me so much Jenn in those posting above, I very much appreciate all that!
