Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today, we went to a funeral.

At the reception, I was briefly talking to someone when I was introduced to a man as "Patrick's spouse."

Even here in CA, I was surprised...

How should I have responded? I just was cordial by social standards due to my surprise, but interiorly, I wanted to say, "CA does not recognize same-s*x marriages."

What to do?

The lady who died we knew from Church and she had 5 children - one of whom is Patrick.

Thanks for your advice.

I would have asked if he had heard of the organization Courage and suggested he look it up. I would have ended with telling him that I would try to keep him in my prayers and then I would have started praying that he came to know the truth about his lifestyle.

I have learned to be as honest and truthful as I can without getting into a debate.

I've never heard of Courage.

I'll google it.

Thanks for the info.

Honestly, at a funeral reception, I would not have said anything about it. I think there is a time and place for holding one's tongue and you did the right thing by remaining silent and courteous at that time.

When I read that I thought you were saying YOU were introduced AS "Patrick's spouse" and that you were offended by it.

Kind of like that punctuation thing where the panda eats, shoots, and leaves.

I think you did the right thing and praying for him without his knowledge is still a good thing and may some day bear fruit.

Blessings,
Krisann
