Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Okay.. okay...
I truely do love these forums, but why oh why does there have to be a zillion different sections and subsections and none of them with a search feature?! I can't ever remember to makr everything that catches my eye and I feel so incompetent asking. I need a pulling hair out smiley.. Am I missing something? Doing something wrong? Am I getting electronicly challenged as I age??

Does anyone know how I can find the thread about homeschool share's contest? Thank you so very much!

Here's the thread
and the actual link to the message on the site.

And there is an overall search feature at the top right hand of the forums pages. If you put in "homeschool share" it does bring up that thread. Hope that helps.

One feature I just figured out recently is the Active Topics button up at the top right. It brings up only the topics that have had posts since you were on last. It makes it much easier to keep up!

The search feature allows you to search the entire forum (including the archives) by topic, username or post content. It's located in the upper right hand corner on the middle row.

I constantly use Active Topics, but I need to give one little warning. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong: The Active Topics time defaults to the last time that you logged off 4real forums. In other words, the next time you log on and go to "Active Topics" it will show you everything since you logged off. The trouble is, that if you will not get any threads that were updated in the 'window of time' between when you checked Active Topics previously and the time you logged off.   Okay, I know that this is about as clear as mud -- does anyone who can communicate know or understand what I am talking about??

I have had trouble with this. I can and do try to seaarch the archives pretty regularly, but it only takes me back one year. I have found posts that reference older posts and found things that way, but I can't seem to get anything older than 1 year.

ack! so embarrassed...
that button marked "search" actually works now... thank you!

Does it only bring up search info by thread title? or will it search for those words in the posts too? that seems to be when I have the most problems using it...

and thank you very much for the link...

I'm going to chalk this up to sleep deprivatation and stress, something other than being a blind and forgetfull.... i'm too young to have these issues! oh wait.. no I'm apparently not...have mercy on me!

When Chari was visiting here she showed me that there's a date bar at the top left when you choose "Active Topics". So when you choose the Active Topics option, you see something that says "Show active topics since..." and then you can choose from a menu of options. That way, if I just glance through the Active Topics because I'm in a hurry in the am, and then want to read carefully in the pm, I can change the Active Topic paramter to read the messages for the past 12 hours or 24 or whatever.

Gee, it's hard to explain things like this in writing!    Hope it makes sense.

It will search for words in the posts, too, if you use the "message body" option.

My searches went back over one year when I chose the "Sort results by topic start time" option (bottom right of the Search screen).

However, I do think Tim planned the board so that the messages only stay up for a year. I think I remember that, anyway. So if you just look back through the threads you find that there aren't any dated back more than a year.

That's what I do also. It's a good feature to use also to make sure that no topics get lost in the little "window of time" that I was talking about...

When you do a search, it should give you all results for that search term, no matter how old the post is. I just did a random search in Fireside Chat (because you can choose to search in only one "room" if you like) for the word "help" and got results all the way back from Feb '05.

Your trouble may be in showing lists of threads older than 1 year when you're not searching, in which case you should click on "All" in the "Show Topics" list at the top left in a "room."

It also may be that the "older post" has been moved to the archive, which is a completely different section of the board. If you go to the board's main homepage and scroll to the bottom, you'll see a blue "CLICK HERE FOR ARCHIVED TOPICS" link. That link takes you to archives for each "room" in the board. Those topics no longer appear on the regular thread pages. Am I making any sense?!

I think that the default may be to show topics from the last 6 months, but you can change that (as described in my previous post just above) to show all topics.

I want to clarify that NOTHING gets automatically deleted, no matter how old it is. At times, moderators permanently delete topics or move topics to the Archives. All topics that have not been manually deleted are still on the board. Check the Archives (link at bottom of homepage) and/or make sure that the Show Topics list is set to "All."
