I'm up to my ears in work right now but dh wants me to ask a question so I'll post it and come back later.
Would any of you be interested in a conference or rather a curriculum fair with workshops only?
No speakers other than workshop speakers who are most likely also vendors and no lunch or family activities.
Just a large space with various homeschool vendors and workshops available throughout the weekend?
Admission would be FREE.
Does this idea appeal to anyone (asks she who swore she wouldn't be doing another conference next year)?
Oh yes, it would be in Lancaster or York County, PA - sometime in the spring or summer of 2007.
If you ARE interested I would happily take suggestions for a preferable date and vendors.
Thanks!
Michele

I love this idea. What works best for me (right now) would be June or July...but only if it's air conditioned space.

Yes, and God willing, I would come. I would prefer April-May-early June. I'll have to think on the vendors.

Sounds awesome! I am a hands-on learner so although I do get alot from talks, I would get so much more from a workshop!

Well that's the big question isn't it?
My dh threw out this idea last night and it pretty much floored me because after the May conference he said we weren't doing it again. (Bless his heart he's so sensitive to me and starts the conversation with "now don't freak out, this is just a suggestion" )
This way would be more manageable for us for sure, BUT if we rent the space and get vendors to come than we have to be sure shoppers come too.
Overall I do see the potential for this to be quite good. With the open sort of set-up (come and go as you like) it would leave plenty of time and space for shopping, learning AND connecting with one another.
And if I could get you and MacBeth to come . . .

I think a notebooking and/or lapbooking workshop would go over well. I know I would attend. Also one on doing nature journals with children would seem to be a big interest. If it had these workshops plus vendors to shop at, I'd attend that conference for sure.

June would be great!! We're planning on a cross country trip to Massachusetts where my inlaws live next June. Pennsylvania would be a great place to detour!! I love the lapbooking/notebooking workshop idea. I second Elizabeth and Macbeth!

This sounds great, especially for us veterans who have heard most of the "typical" talks over and over. For me, I am more interested in specific, vendor-type talks to explain products and methods.
Spring is still an issue for me because of baseball. But I realize you gotta do it when you can get the location.
And Mary, knitting sounds great! Can you teach me to sew, too?

You know, weren't we all just saying that the best part of the conferences is always the vendor workshops?
So, Michele, is there a good place to get Mexican in Lancaster? And could we all get tickets for Sight and Sound, too?

I would love to attend something like that but I don't know if I could make it all the way from LA. I would have to fly which will add cost... Oh well Soņar es gratis (Spanish for to dream is free).

Mexican we can do. Sight and Sound you can afford to miss - trust me. It's pricey (Mary doesn't work there anymore so I can't get tickets) and frankly it's kinda cheesy.
At this point it looks like we're a go. . .we just have to nail the date down and see who can come.
Right now we are looking at the 4th weekend of June or the first or second weekend of July. May is out - too many things going on and we'd prefer to be finished RCIA before the conference.
Several people have suggested to me that we really should have a small entrance fee so I'm wondering if $5/per family sounds OK?
We are going to try and get the same place as last year but with a different set-up (no lunch this time, more vendors, and workshops. Children are welcome though we won't have anything specific planned for them).
Oh and we REALLY want to have all the workshops taped so if anyone has an idea on who could help us with that let me know.
God bless,

June 8th and 9th - same weekend as IHM
Our plan is not to overlap with any other major conference - especially since I tend to actually GO to those conferences.

Us too. FYI for anyone who's wondering, NACHE (Catholic Family Expo) is the last weekend in June next year.

Michele -
I would imagine a small entrance fee would help defray some rental costs or something. $5 per family is pretty nominal, so shouldn't serve as a deterrent (sp?) for anyone.
I didn't make it to the May conference; too close to dd's wedding. A conference at the Host, though, would take me back at least a zillion years to when I waitressed there!
Looking forward to seeing this take shape.
Peace,
Nancy
