Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My old side by side is dying. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the new french door, freezer on the bottom ones. They are supposed to be more energy efficient .

OOh! I do! I got mine in January and I'm still singing it's prasies daily. The layout is ingenious! We opted not to get water and ice in the door so that we'd have maximum space inside. I will admit to having a child fill my cup with ice these days; that lean into the bottom freezer is bit much pregnant. BUt...other than that, I have nothing but happy things to say about my Kenmore french doors fridge!

Mary Ann,

What color are you looking at? We are going to be buying another side by side as well. I was curious about this style, but am also wondering whether to purchase black, white or stainless steel. Which do you think would be easier to keep clean?..not show finger prints as much?

We bought a freezer on the bottom frig with one door up top when we moved into our new house, and I LOVE it. We bought black, which I don't notice fingerprints marring at all. I do tend to have a lot of papers stuck on teh front of my frig, however.    We had a stainless steel dishwasher in our old house and it was difficult to keep clean, needed a special spray for maintenance. And that was the dishwasher, which the kids didn't handle nearly as much as they do the frig. I really love, love, love my new frig!

I'm not sure. MY kitchen has pearl maple cabinets, so I thought that a large black refrigerator would be too much black. I already have a stainless stove and microwave, so that would be okay, except for keeping it nice looking. White is what I have now.

Thanks for the comments.    I'm really leaning towards this style. Also, Elizabeth, knowing that it works for your large family too, is a good recommendation!

For what it's worth, and this is just my opinion, (and any other disclaimer you would like to add) - I always feel like side by sides do not use the space efficiently. Because both the fridge and freezer compartments are narrower than on a top-and-bottom model (or on a bottom-and-top model, at that) it just seems like you don't have quite the maneuverability with the things you put in.

That said, I would add that a LONG time ago we had a bottom freezer model in a rental house (the fridge belonged to the landlady) and I really liked being able to sit on the floor and rummage around in there; with the freezer on the top model it just seems like a landslide of very hard, frozen blocks of STUFF hit me on the head.

Hey, if the new ones are supposed to be particularly energy efficient, I'd vote "no contest".

Peace,
Nancy
