Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi There!

I have had a Bosch mixer for several years now and have milled my wheat and made 5 loaves of bread a week for about 3-4 years. Lately, I have not been successful at making the time to do it.

I'm wondering if I had a Zojirushi where I could spend about 15 min. loading the ingredients in the morning, if I would bake my own bread more often?

I tend to prefer breaking things down into smaller chunks (doing a little laundry every day rather than all in one day, never was good at once a month cooking, etc...). I'm sure I would still use my mixer for so many things, but maybe having a Zo would ensure I have fresh bread daily?

Does anybody have both a Bosch and a Zo? I was just given exactly the amount of birthday money to cover purchasing one. But my dh questions whether it is justified to buy one when we have a Bosch. I told him I'd ask my dear sisters in the Lord and hear from you all.

Give me the pros and cons and any suggestions! Thanks in advance!

I have a Bosch and a West Bend bread machine. I have used my Bosch for 15 years, and it was great when I was making(and the family was eating) 6 loaves at a time. Now, with only us and four girls in the house, I find that even if I use the bread machine twice a day, we always have fresh bread(more than that in the house will just go stale now), and I never get caught in the buying bread cycle. It works great for us to do this, and my dh the engineer said that he wished he had thought of it when giving a small batch presentation at work

I will have to pull out the Bosch in a few weeks when everyone is in town for Emily's wedding, as we will EASILY go through 6 loaves before it can go stale!!

Funny you should bring this up! I just bought and have been using the Bosch Universal and I couldn't be more happy with it. I usually make and bake two loaves at a time, but I love having the blender for quick grinding and making whole grain blender pancakes!! I decided aginst the Zo only because I wanted to bake multiple loaves at a time

I have the Zo but not the Bosch. I am still waiting for my Kitchen Aid mixer to hit the dust. I don't think I would bake 6 loaves at a time, unless some were for friends. I guess I am looking at the Bosch as a good investment since I have heard that newer Kitchen Aid are not as well made as mine.
I am not sure if that makes any sense, it has been a long day!

My dh is softening up to the idea.

I think there are seasons in my life, like when I'm pregnant or have a newborn or we are traveling alot (like right now), where a Zo would be very helpful to get fresh bread on the table. Considering I got the exact amount needed to cover one for my birthday, I think it's a no brainer. But I don't want to do something if my dh isn't on board.

So your replies have been real helpful. Keep them coming!

I've got a Magic Mill mixer (the Bosch is gorgeous!) with a Magic Mill grinder and I also have a bread machine.

I recently tried to use the bread machine daily to see if I could keep up with making bread more often than with the mixer. It didn't work. I still do better making several loaves at a time with my mixer. Plus, it drives me crazy how long it takes compared to using the mixer and the oven.

So anyway, I'm sticking with my mixer. I just wish I could keep up with milling the flour! I can't stand how loud the machine is and can't seem to get into the habit of using it regularly.

Hi Ana,

I don't know what your decision was but I thought I'd chime in since I have a bread machine that I love & just purchased the Bosch. The Bosch does much better with whole grains. I don't have much luck with 100% whole grain with my bread machine. It just doesn't knead it enough. Mine is not a Zo, so I'm not sure if it does better.

Let us all know what you decided.

Hi Brenda,

I've determined that my bread machine is also not sturdy enough to handle whole grains, and this is why my loaves do not rise properly!

I'm considering the Bosch. Can you tell me how it works for you? Is it more complicated to make bread in the Bosch than in a bread machine? I like being able to put everything in at once and turn it on. However, I never bake in the machine...I use the dough cycle and then bake in my oven. Are there more steps with the Bosch?
Thanks!

Hi Shawna,

My Bosch arrived today so I'm just learning how to use it. Amie is really the pro. She loves her Bosch. She did such a good job of sharing all her breadmaking tips
here.

From what I can gather it is somewhat more of a process to actually make the dough, but you can make 6 loaves at a time. My family has at least 2 pizzas when I make pizza for dinner & as they grow, I anticipate 3 pizzas. Making pizza is an all-day project with the bread machine considering I can make only 1 pizza dough at a time. Plus if you want to make pizza for company, it's easy enough to whip up several doughs.

Before I decided on the Bosch, I looked long & hard at the Electrolux DLX. The Electrolux is a better machine but it's also quite a bit more $. After all the positive reviews on the Bosch, I figured enough people were satisfied without haven paid the extra $.

There's also a yahoo group that you may find helpful. I believe Stefanie recommended it - Mixer Yahoo Group

Hope that helps!
