Well, after googling and coming up with some unfavorable websites, could anyone tell me if they've made or have purchased a white pinafore style dress for their little (or not so little) girls??

Sense & Sensibility patterns has a lovely pinafore pattern here. I haven't made it, but I have seen it made up and it is darling. Hope this helps!

I know there was a link on here (or somewhere linked to from here :-) but I can't find it.
I did find this post from Mary G. on the Modesty thread that might be another possibility:

Here's another great resource for modest clothing -- Simple Yet Beautiful is run by a Catholic homeschooled girl (well, she's finished now -- she's 20 I think -- and one of 11 children). Anyway, she'll custom make jumpers, skirts, dresses, bloomers etc for littles to big, maternity and nursing styles included. She does a great job and her prices are very reasonable.
She doesn't have a website yet, but her contact info is: Patricia Lober, Simple Yet Beautiful, 459 S. Ethlyn Rd., Moscow Mills, MO 63362-3111. Or you can contact her by email to obtain her catalog and fabric swatches: Lober Family <lobers@surfbest.net>
She also gives a discount to large families
Hope this helps. |

Meredith,
I've purchased dresses and pinafores/aprons from The King's Daughters several times. The quality is excellent and they are very easy to work with. They also sell patterns of their items.

Meridith,
I have used this McCall's pattern several times. It turns out quite nice.
It's comes in small and larger sizes.
Here's a really cute pinafore and dress from Butterick
FYI, if you have a JoAnn Fabrics nearby McCall's patternsare on sale for $1.99 July 6th - 8th.
Simplicity patterns are $1.99 July 13th - 15th and Butterick patterns are 98 cents on July 1st.
God bless!

I know this is a little off topic for this thread, but I was wondering if Michele or anyone could recommend a pattern for aprons. I would love to have my girls make their own and I'd love to make one, too. Wouldn't that make a fab gift for Grandmas and Aunties for Christmas?
Thank you!

I still have the first apron Mom and I hand sewed when I was a girl. Here's the secret - use gingham! She just told me to place 5 stitches in each block and it turned out soooo nice! Hem three sides of a rectangle of material that'll reach the knees and that will wrap around the person twice. Gather the top (I think Mom said 2 stitches per square here) and enclose in a folded over (like bias tape) waist band/tie. I whip stitched the tie once it left the waistband. The longer the better here since I still want to wear it but it now ties in a little bitty bow instead of a big flowing one! Iron everything before sewing and it is a breeze to make as the gingham squares keep everything, well, square.

Thanks Michele, I love the McCalls pattern, it's darling! I need to join your sewing group, do you have a handy link, I can't remember if it was Yahoo or not
Jennifer, what a wonderful memory, I'm so glad you still have it!! I wish my mother would have kept all the amazing and beautiful dresses my dear grandmother made me when I was a little girl, but they are unfortunately gone My dd-10, has so far kept all the ones that I have made for her, we keep wishing for another little girl who could wear them too
Maria, I found an Easy-Sew apron pattern at JoAnn's, it's something that could easily be sewn in an afternoon for mother and daughters (Sorry I don't have a link for you).
Thanks again, I think I'm going to have to shop for a new sewing machine as it looks as though the moving company may have LOST that box Any suggestions. I have my grandmother's Singer Table Machine from 1908, but would also like a computerized table top model that's a little easier to move around. Happy sewing!!
