We do not have the board game Clue here, and I was thinking it would be fun to have around for our summer break. HOwever, I was surprised on Amazon that a) Clue is a pretty expensive game and b) there are a lot of versions.
Do you have a favorite version? Or should I skip it all together? (we have lived without it all this time, after all).

Love playing it. My kids like it too. I like the classic version. I think I picked it up at a yard sale or something. I put the pieces and cards in a ziplock bag and stack the board with some others. Takes up way less space and doesn't matter if the box is falling apart when I get it.
I read the newer version directions and I didn't care for the changes.

We love it here, too. Our favorite version is definitely the classic version! Have fun!

Melinda have you ever seen Timeline The kids love it! the cards are small. But basically it shows a picture of something (different versions like history or science or inventions) and on the flip side is the same thing with the date. You deal out cards date down.. and then turn up a card to start the time line so that the date shows. Then you play a card by placing it in the timeline. And then you flip it over to show the date. If you're right it stays in the timeline, if you're wrong it's discarded and you have to draw a new card. Winner is the first to use up their cards.
Not the same type of game as clue but my kids get excited about playing (they do clue as well) so I thought I'd mention it.

Definitely classic. We have both because we played the classic so much cards were worn out. The kids don't like and rarely play the new version. -Annie

I wonder where I could find the classic edition for under $20? Church is having a yard sale this weekend- will definitely look there.

I seem to see the classic version at thrift stores a lot...
We were given the new version for Christmas and it's just... ugly. No more "Observatory" and "Parlor" but the Garage is decked out with a motorcycle and sports car and the Game Room has a flat screen TV in it. And I don't know why, but I was bothered at the tousled, unmade bed in the master bedroom. The characters are all modernized too.
Just not a fan.

Love the classic! If you don't want to spend too much for it, how about creating your own board, characters, cards and weapons? ;) My oldest boys made their own chess board years ago. Not sure where all the pieces have gone, but they had fun making them and playing. :)

I finally caught Classic Clue in a price dip on Amazon 
I saw a couple of different versions at various thrift stores lately, but I just didn't feel comfortable that all the pieces would be there, and the boxes were taped shut.
However, I did find the TimeLine game at a thrift store in mint condition for $1.25. It really is a lot of fun! Thanks for the heads up on that one, Jodie. My son knew exactly when dynamite was invented. I asked him how he knew, and he said, "I put it on my timeline last year, remember?"
