Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I had a very interesting moment in VBS last week. We were discussing with the kids ( rising 4th grade) how Jesus loves us even when we feel scared/afraid/confused/left out, etc.

We asked the kids what was something that really scared them. One girl raised her hand right away and said it was the scary stuff her dad watched on TV. Almost all the kids chimed in right away, agreeing that the things they saw on TV scared them more than anything else.

That is interesting, Melinda. I imagine that most kids have seen some pretty scary images on tv. I remember having nightmares from the commercials for horror movies, not even things my parents were watching, let alone allowing us to see.

But, I can also imagine that in a group of kids, the consensus in that situation would be that the scariest thing they'd seen was on tv, especially after someone mentioned it. I mean, I imagine my kids saying, "The devil," or "hell." But if someone else answered first about tv, they would likely follow suit, naming scary stuff on tv. If the first person had said, "the diving board" or "the rollercoaster," I imagine the children would start answering in that direction, or if they had said, "piano recital," you would have gotten more of the same.

And in some sense, I HOPE that the scariest thing they have seen was on television. Otherwise, they themselves would be victims of violence or a major accident. Yk, even if it is a shipwreck or wicked witch in a children's movie, it is still pretty scary compared to real life.
