Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Sending this special Friday edition of the Wednesday Shout Out with much love! Happy Valentine's Day

How are you? What's new?

We're gearing up for Spring baseball with 2 sons playing on the same high school varsity and my little guy playing up in Little League - he is beside himself with pride.

So my time here and everywhere will be short through spring but I at least wanted you to know how much I think of you, pray for your intentions, and love you as sisters.

Hope you'll like this postLove your neighbor, literally and I wrote more stuff about snacks, Bruno Mars, Tom Petty, and wearing orchid... but not all at the same time    .

Are you doing anything special for Valentine's Day?

Love,

Snowed here this week -- that was the big news in NC. We were homebound for three days, though yesterday temps rose above freezing, and we could get out in the car. So it's been a lot of playing outside, wet clothes, being thankful the power stayed on.

Of course I hadn't planned ahead for Valentines and gotten candy before the snow, so on Thursday night I baked everyone a little heart-shaped chocolate cake with peppermint sprinkles -- and that was breakfast yesterday!

My sweet husband HAD planned ahead (or else one of the Main Street shops actually was open when he went out for milk) and gave me some handmade soap and some scented wax thingies to go in the little Mason-jar warmer I got for Christmas.

Some Abbey friends of ours have a tradition of doing a "Soup and Wine Valentine" party, and the roads were good enough last night that we went out to that. It was loads of fun -- couples brought wine, and the hosts provided several kinds of really delicious, special soup: I had curried salmon soup and a creole shrimp and corn bisque. It was fun to get out after several days shut in and see some friends whom I don't see all the time, because we live at kind of a far remove from the college and move in a different daily orbit.

So that was our Valentine's date, and while it wasn't one-on-one romantic, it was fun -- and also frugal, which helps in the week before payday. We've had a lot of one-on-one time, both romantic and unromantic, all this week anyway!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Sally

Sally, what kind of peppermint sprinkles? Like crushed candy canes? I love chocolate and mint :)

And I'M ALL OVER THIS SOUP AND WINE VALENTINE idea!

Sending warm Arizona sunshine your way

Love,

Basically, yes, like crushed candy canes. They came that way in the little shaker from the baking aisle -- I think we got them when my 10-year-old wanted to do gingerbread houses for her birthday. I like chocolate and mint, too, but mainly I was looking for something red and valentiney, so people would feel that we hadn't forgotten Valentines Day!

Dh was an amazing Valentine and installed 2 new hot water heaters in our crawl space. One heater goes to the kitchen and boys bath, the other does the laundry and master bath.

PLUS

He cleaned the faucet in the kitchen. Between the slow water flow and the great distance, we'd sometimes wait 4-5 minutes for hot water! Now, 4 SECONDS! It is awesome!

PLUS

This means we no longer have a big, obtrusive hot water heater in the dinky little laundry/utility room. It makes a big difference in how it feels in there.

We gave the boys a 1000 piece puzzle with WWII bombers on it. Dh picked it up at Costco this week in case their little valentines are interested

Well new here is dh cut my hair and dd20 on the weekend. He watched several youtubes and then just 'let it clip' We are both now sporting short, stylish hair styles with feathering and long layers. One of the best cuts I've ever had and Dd's is the best style ever, I just keep staring at hers.

Otherwise back into our 4th week of the new school year here and going well. Poetry memorisation and poetry recitation nights are our big hit of the year thus far.
