Angie,
Yahoo news has a headline proclaiming "Da Vinci Code Finds Box Office Holy Grail".
I am pretty disappointed and saddened by the success of The Da Vinci Code. I think that the best thing to do now is to pray for the poor souls who went to see Da Vinci Code. It's so sad that so many people actually believe the lies this movie presents as truth.

I'm enjoying that DVC is not receiving good critical reviews. I heard a review on the liberal NPR radio show that was negative for acting and plot alone Hopefully its "suceess" is short-lived.

not very charitable of me, but i was LOL when i read that it bombed at Cannes. there was snickering in the background, during the most important scenes. yikes! the article did say it doesn't mean people aren't going to go see it anyway. but at least it doesn't look like it's going to win any major awards.

I have to point out that People magazine (twaddle yes, but still every little bit helps ) gave Da Vinci Code 1 1/2 stars and Over the Hedge 3 (out of 4).
From the review:
"Code is just this side of being an over-stuffed turkey. There's so much plot to be covered and explaining of the finer points of supposed religious history that character development and humor drop by the wayside. The film is a long (149 minutes), jumbled rush to an ending that (1) can be seen a mile away and (2) is a howler."

Oh, and Time panned it as well, calling it "The Da Vinci Coma." Let me go grab the Newsweek and see what that says ...
Yep, same here too: "Thou Shalt Not Like It."

The biggest problem I have with the reviews (I know, let's take what we can get) is that they're all saying how great the book was and panning the version that Ron Howard put together. So, without saying it, they're saying "read the book, it's better".....
I saw one review yesterday that went on and on about how we're all so paranoid and worried about a work of fiction -- but Dan Brown keeps saying it's not fiction....

Well, the new X-Men movie has crushed box office records this Memorial Day weekend - opening weekend estimated at $107 million to the Da Vinci Code's $77 million. Definitely makes it the biggest opening movie this year and leaves DVC in it's dust! So now hopefully all the hype goes to X-Men.
