Saints Name Generator
Today is a great day to find a patron saint for the year.
My family always enjoys doing this.
I got St. Luke- I'm tickled, as he's been a favorite of mine since reading "Dear and Glorious Physician". I also call on him quite often to intercede for healing. I guess he thought we should have an official arrangement for the year

Okay Melinda,
I could not resist. The sweet Chiara Badano came up. I cried while reading her bio and am now wondering, "okay, does this mean my only daughter will too be diagnosed with cancer or is her last name a sad blend of English and Italian (bad-year if it were Badanno)."
Oh well, I think I would have preferred Luke.Time to stop thinking and go to bed.

I've had St. Damien and St. Brigid of Sweden ( patron saint of widows) in years past, so I get what you are saying  . It was fine, though  .
St. Chiara is a modern saint and such a beautiful one- so brave! I am sure she will take good care of you and your family throughout the year.
A couple of years ago my mother got St. Anthony of Egypt. She had never heard of him and was a little perplexed over it, but she really warmed up to him over a year's time. She was really nervous about taking the test to renew her drivers license (notoriously hard in this state). Without planning it, she wound up taking the test on his feast day and passed on the first try. They are buddies to this day

Yay for St. Anthony of Egypt! St. Brigid would have got me wondering but I am pretty sure no one here would be coming down with Lepresy. Glad it all worked out

St. Damien rocks! I often marvel at how flat out brave he was- and hardworking, plus he must have had a strong stomach.
I love that Robert Louis Stevenson visited him on Molokai. Can you imagine the two of them walking around and talking??? Boggles the mind.

The Colony by John Tayman is a great book about the treatment of lepers in Hawaii prior to St. Damien's arrival and the challenges he faced along with St. Mary Anne Cope. She was born in Europe but grew up in Syracuse, which is about 1 hour from me. I know I enjoyed the book, but can't remember if it's ok for teens. It was years ago.

Wow, I didn't know Stevenson had visited Fr. Damien!
The Colony sounds like a fascinating read. Maybe that should be my first step in my year's journey with St. Damien.

I just did it, for the very first time, and got St. George which I thought totally odd until I saw he is the patron against skin disease. I have some spots I really need to have looked at, like have put off for way too long. Hmmm......

St. Gemma Galgani for me this year: against temptations, the death of parents, and tuberculosis; patron of apothecaries, druggists, pharmacists, students.
Cool . . . though I hope I don't need to invoke her against the death of a parent this year! (or tuberculosis, either)

I got St. Leo the Great. He isn't a patron saint of anything, though a fascinating man. Sometimes as the mother of 5 boys, I feel as though I negotiate with barbarians daily, so I could definitely use some of his powers of persuasion

I haven't really done the random pick thing. But we have another Confirmation this year and so we'll spend some time learning about his choice of Saint.. St. Francis of Assisi (in the past we've had St. Lucy Filippini, St. George, St Joan of Arc, and St. Lucy of Syracuse)

For my saint this year, I got St. Tillo!
I had never heard of him... he was a Benedictine monk who was a missionary in France. He is the patron saint against childhood diseases and fever, also for children learning to walk.
We have a great devotion here to praying for sick children, so he is perfect for me
