Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

you've ever received?

I saw this question on another blog, and the answers had me cracking up. I had to bring it here...

Here's mine:

My grandmother liked to give fuzzy tissue box covers, and I remember getting one that was meant to look like a dog. It was made of long, shaggy acrylic dyed a deep aqua with navy stripes. It had two largely googly eyes on one end and a little tail. All in all, it was like a little Apso Lapsa kleenex dispenser.

Where she ever found these things, I'll never know. But the memory stuck. I also received a set of plain white bed sheets from a relative one year- useful, but a little strange as a gift.

OK- now I know the rest of you can make me laugh some more... this could also be a fun conversation starter for Thanksgiving gatherings.

Well a relative who has a shopping addiction gives odd presents that don't always fit. I've peeked in the bags and I know this year my ds' 16 & 14 are receiving power boards (energy saving ones )

On year I got hand-me-down clothes from DH's aunt. They weren't her hand-me-downs, either, but from a friend of hers. This was when I was in my 20s and she was approaching 60.

A silk screened sweat shirt with "Dental Hygienist" on it. I have never been a DH. Actually, it was for an aunt, and she received my teacher shirt. 'Grandma" never figured out what happened lol

It wasn't for Christmas, but dh's aunt gave me a cookie jar just like this one, the first time we met. The box looked like it had been sitting in the closet from a Christmas gift she didn't want, I think it even had a bit of wrapping paper and tape still on the box. They live 16 hours away, and it was the first time meeting, so you want to be nice and make a good impression. That wasn't the only funny thing we received that trip, she gave us a HUGE outdated can of cranberry sauce, and a ton of outdated Ensure drinks. We just politely thanked them with a smile and as much enthusiastic graciousness as could be mustred, and dumped the food when we got home, and gave the cookie jar to Goodwill.

Oh my- that is too funny about the cookie jar, and the sweatshirts, too.

Monica- what did you do with the clothes?

My grandmother used to also give us clothes- my poor brother would often get items with a ruffle or something pink. When my mom questioned this, my grandmother would say," Well, he's young. It doesn't matter".
