Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

my soon to be 8yr old is currently using my old 2mp digital camera, complete with 3x5 floppy disk. he's become an avid birder and really needs a better camera, something with some zoom power so he can capture our red shouldered hawk for his photo collection. can you recommend a digital camera that would be easy for a child to use, have zoom capability, and wouldn't make me cringe if i saw him drop it?

My 9 year old son uses a Kodak EasyShare. He has taken some surprisingly good photos with it. And he has dropped it, at least once that I know of-- with no dire results.

My dd saved for years for her digital camera and during that time would make lists of what she wanted it to do, the most important being taking underwater photos and fitting into an underwater case that was not in the 4 digits. (seriously) We would google the features and then check e-bay where she ended up buying a brand-new-from-a-store camera and case.

So if you are wanting to take photos of birds off the top of my head, I'd say you'd need a high mega pixel so you can blow up and crop your shots and a auto-stabilizer to avoid blurring. Most modern cameras have both these features so it should be a breeze to select one!
