Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh help.. I've been putting off a decision and I'm out of time.

If you're going to a meeting that your Catholic Bishop has called for scouters/parents to discuss the Boy Scout Policies... do you wear the scout uniform?

At first I thought yes.. but then the more I thought about it the more it seemed like wearing the uniform means we were representing the scouts at this meeting.. which I'm not sure is what I want to do..

but also I'd rather wear something that looks nice rather than the slightly uncomfortable uniform

So I'm not sure if that is influencing me and so I can't decide.

There's 3 of us going from our church (it's a long drive) one is a district rep and said he's going to wear the uniform, the other is my dh who's a scoutmaster and said since the other guy is wearing it he'll wear his uniform, and then there's me, I'm somewhere around half to a third of the scout committee (depending on the day).

opinions? please

I wouldn't, but I don't have a uniform. This isn't an official scout meeting so I wouldn't wear it. I think the district reps always wear their uniforms. I'm sure if I saw ours eating out on the weekend he would have his on.

That's a toughie . . . I know that when the new policies came down, our Scoutmaster stopped wearing his uniform and stopped requiring the boys to wear theirs. And now our troop has folded, so this whole thing just makes me so sad, especially as the weekend of the Big Decision was the weekend my older son earned his Eagle. But we did have a series of meetings where half the boys were in uniform and half weren't, because whether or not to put on the insignia of the organization had become a matter of personal choice. And the effect was . . . strange. Like half the troop had already bailed, while the other half hadn't.

I think my own gut feeling would be that if the other adults representing the organization are in uniform, probably everyone officially representing the organization (on the parish level) should be in uniform. It just looks jarring and disunified otherwise.

But yeah, I hate uniforms. I totally sympathize with wanting to wear something nicer.

eta: I'm presuming that you have the uniform and would normally wear it at any function where you were representing the troop/committee/parish scouting program. I would count this as one of those times.
