Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Friends,

Are there any lay Dominicans out there? I saw a group at our church’s stewardship fair, started talking to them....and they invited me to their monthly meeting which was right after the fair. I attended, and was so impressed. I have to say, Dominicans have been sort of falling from the sky for me the last few years sort of like when I was “thinking” of homeschooling, and I started having all sorts of homeschoolers showing up in my life.

My concern is having a very busy, sometimes unpredictable, medically intense life here at the homestead. It makes me nervous about how much I can do at this time. I am very attracted to the spirituality, the prayer, having some “structure” to my prayer life.....and especially diving into my faith reading and learning....and spreading the Good News...however that may take shape in my life according to God’s Will. I feel God’s stirring in my heart....will continue to pray about it, and go to another monthly meeting next month...and a day retreat in November.

Thoughts??

I was in formation for a time with the Daughters of St. Francis de Sales. I really enjoyed it; learned a lot; improved my prayer life; felt that it was a good fit. However, my life with a special needs teen, a younger son, and a daughter in college (at that time) as well as a husband working some Saturdays.....I just couldn't devote the time needed to do the reading, reflecting, writing, studying, etc. ( and this was years before I started homeschooling!) Also could rarely make the Saturday meetings. I had little in common with the majority of the women who were in their 70's. We met as a large group so it was difficult to get to know the other women. Plus most of them lived at least 1/2 hour away; with many living even further away. Just couldn't add any more driving to schedule.

Our parish has a very large lay Carmelite group, but their spirituality isn't a good fit for me; and there seem to be even more requirements for formation.

Maybe you could visit for awhile and get a good feel for whether it's the right group for you and the right time.
