Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

While my first Wednesday in the World didn't take off, I'll trying again, hoping it will catch on. I really enjoy scouring the internet for the latest content that can help families live a happy life. One part of that is how families can learn together.

This week in my Family Learning Scoops, there are articles on software for college students (much of it is FREE), iPad must haves for back to school, How to create a comic strip with your kids, a cool infographic on theories of learning, and more!

Hope you enjoy the articles and I will happily discuss any of them! My 2 recents favorites include Back to School: Oh, How I Wish the iPad Had Existed in 1982 - TIME - well written and brought me back to the day . And So You Think You Can Dance? which includes a video of a girl who taught herself to dance in a year. I showed it to my teens and discussed how the "daily grind" of skill building really does pay off!

I'll give you free chocolate if you reply here.

I'm kidding but do hope to chat soon :)

Have a great week!

Love,

I'm a dud bc I'm not sure what you're wanting? I'm sleep deprived and not necessarily too quick today.

Sharing links to stuff or blogging on day to day schooling or?

I've been sorta journal blogging our first weeks of school so far.

Maybe at Christmas time! If I even tried to mail chocolate from the AZ desert right now, you would receive a chocolate mess .

~~~waving to you Martha! Thanks for asking for clarification.
Click this link which brings you to articles I've collected the past week. If you find an article you like and read, let's chat about it. EASY! If not, EASY TOO!
All articles are currently what is happening "In the World" according to major news sources, etc. I use a great online place, called Scoopit, to collect the articles into a magazine format (and it's FREE!) I collect content having to do with four main topics: Gems for a Happy Family Life, Family Learning, Family Food & Feast, and Twitter
Feel free to share any interesting articles you are reading too! I love to finding new articles to scoop
I hope we all get some chocolate and extra rest today
Love,
ohhh I see.
So scoop.it is like a pinterest type thing for articles? Sort of a reverse RSS feed to what friends are reading...
I don't have much to contribute. But I'll see if I can rememeber to save interesting tidbits I read this next week and maybe then I will be able to contribute...
It's an interesting idea. I thnk I like it!
Yes! If you are a fan of finding interesting content, organizing it, and sharing it with others, then you might really enjoy Scoopit. I like to scan their content suggestions (which are based on my interests) then I "scoop" what I like onto my "magazine", plus I can share it directly to twitter or buffer (which is where I hold some content to spread out sharing on twitter.) I also like that I can SEARCH my magainze (although I don't think others can at the free level.) Plus, I've made a few friends there too :) I really like it! Oh...I can "scoop" from anyplace online (not just their suggestions) via an app on my laptop. For example, I like to scoop those online recipes that aren't at allrecipes.com to my Family, Food & Feast magazine. Nice!
You could start your own magazine, Martha
Love,
Which brings me to wondering if scoop.it has an app that I could use to attach stuff from iPad or iPhone? I am rarely on the PC. I suppose I could email links to myself and then once a week put them in scoop.it...
Just thinking out loud how this would work best for me on a regular basis...
Well I have no idea what you all are talking about and I'm playing secretary (as soon as the desktop restarts) for my dh. So I only have a minute.
But it sounds something like what I do with facebook.. in that I will repost articles for my teens to their pages. I really like a lot of the stuff that life teen posts.
Here's the iPhone app. Since I'm on my laptop ALL. THE. TIME. I haven't used it much.
Jodie, I think you will especially like the organizing capabilities of Scoopit! I send my teens to my "magazines" often to read. I'm considering starting another magazine just for that purpose
Love,
I haven't heard of scoop it, I tend to diigo articles/posts that grab my attention and make me think.
Not sure if you are only wanting articles or if blog posts are fine. Anyhow I've recently discovered Cindy's blog Ordo Amoris and I'm really enjoying many of her posts. Cindy has 8 boys and 1 girl and is on the tail end of her homeschooling, so she's really 'walked the walk'.
This post about Weaving and education really grabbed me. In fact a couple of local mums and I have been discussing this for weeks. Talking about hs mums.
Quote:
I believe it is because they have forgotten that education is a tapestry and the finished product will not really belong to them. They are only working on a small part of the whole, beautiful cloth. They imagine that it is their job to put together the whole thing in a few short years. And so they begin laying down lots and lots and lots of warp but without any woof or battening. In the end there is nothing to hold their cloth together. It unravels and they quit. In fact the whole of modern education is to lay down threads without anything to hold them together.
There is so much to mull over. Actually I've been really enjoying a few of Ordo Amoris' recent posts too, really touching on some of the real realities of hsing. And I've discovered some other very thought provoking posts at Circe Institute too. Happy to share the posts and the parts that 'grabbed me' if interested.
Oh and another question, did you consider diigo and if so, why did you choose Scoop? I notice it is quite visual
Thanks so much for the links, Erin! I'll check them out
We can all work together to make this weekly meet-up informative and enjoyable in any way that we want! Let's be creative!
It want to stay active here and keep my contributions fresh, so it seemed a good fit for me to share some of the content I'm curating that I see can help others to live a happy family life.
I chose Scoopit because some of the favorite social media friends use it to share their content on twitter. It's a good fit for me because it's easy and connects with other apps I'm already using (such as Buffer.) It's like a puzzle I'm putting together to connect with the world in a meaningful way via social media. Since I feel like I know the members here well, I have an eye for things that we all might like...even if some of it is pulled from a bigger circle than homeschooling. For example, I pull a lot of material from business leadership because fathers and mothers are leaders of their family! (And I'm a management geek.)
So, yes, everyone...jump on in with stuff you're reading, finding, enjoying this week online that others here may enjoy. Now if you find something that you think would stand alone for discussion on one of the forums here, then do that! I just know that many homeschooling moms don't have the time or inclination to sort through mounds of content from all over social media and websites to find what's new and/or what's happening. Hopefully there will be many ways to connect here on Wednesday
Easy!
Love,
Angie
A feature of diigo I love is that I can share on the sidebar of my blog, a few of my irl friends enjoy seeing what I have bookmarked and we chat about the articles. Does scoopit have this function? Do/can you share on the sidebar of your blog?
I just went directly where Angie linked and didn't shop around.
However, I'd really like to link on my blog sidebar too.
The iPhone app is useless. It doesnt work and is extremeeeely sllloooow.
However, that might be for the best, I think what I'm going to plan for now is when I see an article or blog or whatever that look interesting, I'm going to mark is "add to reading list" on my iPad/phone. And once a week, I'm going to read through them and put the ones I liked best in my scoop.it to publish here, FB, and on my blog.
I actually like this better than an app bc I don't have to scoop.it in the moment, which would take time to read it and so forth. I don't have time to do more than a cursory glance among the chao of my days. So this way I hope not to be distracted by it, but still not mentally stagnate because I can't remember where that thing I saw that looked interesting was linked at when I finally have time to read it at midnight.
Thank Angie!
This is an article that I just saw through facebook. “Ultimate Choice Award” at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, Ashton Kutcher, gives speech about hard work and what sexy really is and living your own life
Question about scoop it. We don't have smart phones etc. I have a computer and the two older kids have kindle fires. Is this something that would work for me to share stuff with them? or should I just stick with facebook like I've been doing?
