DD9 is a little upset as her sister(dd14) is heading to school next year, and it will be just the 2 of us at home. However, she doesn't want to go to school.

She would really like to have a co-op, but there is only one around. So, I through the idea of maybe a homeschool girls club.

What was I thinking???

She has said even if it is only 1x a month that would be awesome.

So, now I'm thinking, what can I do? I don't want to have a big group. She hasn't met many homeschool kids in the city that are Catholic, or even Christian, some of the kids have seemed ok, then start ranting on how dumb Christianity is.. atheist families.

It's hard to have them over as it ALWAYS comes up, even if I intervene and tell them that every family has it's own beliefs, it doesn't curb it, so they don't come over.

I was thinking of extending the invitation to girls on the Catholic homeschool list, and go from there. Her closest friend is non-Catholic, but Christian, so that would work. I haven't found a Christian homeschool email list.

BUT.. I need ideas on what to do? I know it would most likely just be a drop off thing for 1.5 to 2 hours.

Games? Art? I want this to be somewhat directed, but mostly social, so friendships can form.

Does it make any sense?

Your daughter is at a great age for Little Flowers. You could make it as involved as you want it to be. It would give you a blueprint for monthly meetings. Just one idea. I'm sure others will have many more.

We did a girls book club once a month for several years. Ours was 10-12 year olds when we started. Others have subsequently started for younger girls here - so I know that age group can work as well. It involved book discussion time then a craft or project related to the book. We took turns hosting.

little flowers is great or you could do a sewing/knitting etc. club. Maybe they could work on making Christmas gifts/decorations together.

My dd11 meet with another girl (we have very little hsers here) last year they did scrapbooking and this year they are planning to read a book and then do a related craft/food activity.

These are all good ideas, ladies! I am especially drawn to a smaller crowd, like Erin described. For my oldest daughter (when she was young), eons ago

, I lead a little girls club. It went surprisingly well, especially thinking about how organization is not my forte and there were at least 7 to 10 girls! It has been so long ago now that I can't remember how frequently we met!

Several years ago my youngest daughter and I discussed having/going to some type of girls club and I was thinking about leading a little girls group again, but I had so much on my plate already and there were also geographical difficulties so I decided to use the time with just my daughter and me.

It was really fun and I am so glad we had that time to bond. She and I are now drawn to work together and I think that memory is one reason it is appealing to her. I did purchase the Little Flower and The Little Women Hospitality Program books for ideas. We did a little of that (I still plan to work with her more on that), but, mostly, we just spent the time together knitting and sewing. She did learn to knit and sew and is quite comfortable doing them on her own. She made a beautiful quilt that she is proud of and made some knitted Christmas gifts to give away.
