Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Next year, dd9 and I are on our own, besides the babies I watch.

I'm on a quest to put together a game center I can do with dd9. I find when I have time in every day to play with her, she is more content overall. Even if there is frustration in learning the game. She looks forward to it.

I am going to teach her to play crib. Math skills involved there. She loves cards, so ideas there would be great too.

I want a pretty good repertoire, as come mid winter when the roads are bad and play dates are much more spread out, it's good to have some fun, we typically have 2 hours in the afternoon while the little ones nap, so I want to have something to do for her, that doesn't involve the computer, ipad, or tv.

Oh, I've got this one. We are a three-person family and Dad isn't much of a game player.

One group of games you might not think of is logic games. My personal favorite is the candy one but I also like the goats, logs, and cars. We play these together by making it kind of a tournament: we time each other and race against the clock. I'll edit in real names or links later.
the candy game: Chocolate Fix:http://www.brightkidsworld.com/Chocolate_Fix_Logic_Puzzl e_Game_for_Kids_ThinkFun_p/thf530.htm

Cars: rush hour http://www.amazon.com/toys-games/dp/B009G5V8OW

logs: river crossing:http://www.amazon.com/Think-Fun-7020-ThinkFun-Cross ing/dp/B00008QJ1D/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8& qid=1370360058&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=logic+game+logs+river

I can't find the goats game just now but it isn't my favorite . . .
Another you might not have considered is Mad Libs. We just love these.

oh, dear . . . somehow I hit post!

MadLibs come in just about every kind of topic from Nancy Drew to Christmas and everything in between.

I bet you already thought of Chess, Checkers, and the like.

We like to play cards: double solitaire, speed, crazy 8, et c.

Guess Who
Battle Ship
Lazer battle game I'll have to edit in name for.

Legos -- isn't a game but we like to play together

finally, there are several here that we have on a list to buy but haven't yet tried.

THanks!!! Great ideas!

Jodie, I forgot about Mastermind and Othello, those are definitely worth getting.

Rebecca, I haven't heard of any of those in the links you shared, so i'm going to comb over those links! Thanks so much.

My husband and I love games, and have spent many years looking for games for two. Expanding the game-playing population of our household is a slow process (oldest is almost 5). Looking across the room at our shelf of commonly used games, I see:

Spot It (definitely kid-friendly)
Ingenious
Lost Cities
Carcasonne
Pandemic (this is great - it's cooperative!)
Set (can't wait until our kids are older; my husband won't play with me anymore )

Dino Dice

We like this one- it's not just for dinosaur lovers. It requires some strategy and also is a good way to sneak in some math practice.   I got ours from rainbow Resources- it was a stocking stuffer one year.

Professor Noggin Games
We like the bird edition

Marbles-
Obviously these could only come out when the babies are napping.
My dc are really into playing marbles and have got me hooked as well. It is surprisingly hard to hit a marble on carpet when it's the last one. Plus, we have some really cool looking marbles- we all have our favorites.

Old Maid-
You can play with with two in a pinch, and there are so many fun sets of OM cards out there. I play this with ds often- it makes us laugh and laugh. (He is ten, btw). we also play a lot of Uno.
