Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have family in NY (specifically western NY) and are curious about homeschooling up there (we are in VA).

Is it difficult, meaning lots of hoops to jump through, just a few? Visits from the school district?

Are there many up there? Anyone around here up there

We live in New York.   I can't really compare it with other states, but I don't think it's difficult. There is a lot of paperwork to fill out, there are quarterly reports, from grade 4 (or 5) on there is mandatory testing every other year (in high school every year), there are mandatory subjects and hours, and attendance records, but no home visits. LEAH has published a wonderful homeschool manual that answers all the questions you might have. Here is a short summary of the laws.

Quite a bit also depends on your school district and superintendent. All the paper work goes to them.
