Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone watching EWTN? We are, but off and on and doing other things. But would love to chat about anything and everything that's going on if anyone feels like it.

Prayer for the Election of a New Pope

O God, eternal shepherd, who govern your flock with unfailing care,
grant in your boundless fatherly love a pastor for your Church
who will please you by his holiness and to us show watchful care.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

What are the times that they vote, when converted to EST, CST, etc? I'd love to watch at those times, but I don't want to have the TV on all day....

Oh, great, thanks! Subtract 5 hours for EST, I think.

Thanks so much for the schedule! Its so helpful to have a general idea when to tune in.

It looks like we Americans would be pretty out of luck in catching the white smoke live if it turns out a morning vote is a deciding one!

Are we hardcore enough to get up at 5:30 every morning to check in just in case?

We were watching. It was exciting to see the Cardinal we're praying for! I kept telling my kids, "these are among the most brilliant and devout men in the world! Pay attention to them!"

Trying to remember to offer every little thing for the Cardinal's wisdom and attentiveness to the Holy Spirit now.

Yes, us too. Very cool!!

The 4-year-old kept wanting to take screenshots of the Cardinals and the "Swiss Guarders" in the "Sixteen Chapel".

We watched earlier, but my younger boys lost interest after I couldn't answer whether or not the Swiss Guard carried guns in addition to their halberds. So most of their discussion was about what would happen in case of assassination attempt.

Anyway... I'm going to turn on the TV again in a few minutes to see the first smoke!

Dh says that when he was in Rome, he never saw them on the person of the ones in ceremonial, multi-colored outfits but he definitely saw Swiss Guards in their solid blue, every day outfit carrying machine guns and knows that those not carrying them had easy access to them.

He had his picture taken with one, so he's an expert

Black smoke. Tune in tomorrow! (we were watching the Vatican webcam, trying to pick out words we knew in Italian and looking for my firstborn in the crowd!).

My younger son was asking a similar thing yesterday. He said, "So would they kill someone who tried to hurt the Pope?"

boys...

The free Pope App is another way to watch the proceedings if you are away from home (on your Smartphone). It shows live feeds. My daughter and I used it to watch the changing of the guard at Castel Gondolfo when Pope Emeritus Benedict resigned, and we used it today to watch the procession into the Sistine Chapel, the taking of the oath, the closing of the doors, and then to see when the black smoke first came out of the stove pipe. It is great, because most of those things were happening while I was in the school pick up line (for my son), so we would have missed them otherwise.

My younger guys were trying to stand as still as the guards. Snort. No chance.

This is an exciting and hopeful time!

Thanks, Lindsay - I will pass on that information. I imagine it will be what the boys end up remembering about this conclave!

Well, it would apoear this is not the sort of curiosity they will outgrow, so it may prove useful someday

What is it with boys and weapons?   Some of the ADULT males in my life are wondering the same thing. I guess they never outgrow that, huh?

Here's the Pope App

and the Conclave App

and for Androids: Conclave App
