Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have struggled for two years with attending Mass (if you've read any of my posts, you'll remember my panic issues). This is my last battleground (well, I still battle Dr visits as well), so I decided it was time to overcome this fear. I have off and on attended by myself and built up some courage. Last month I attended the Scout Sunday with the family and had to sit with my toddler by myself. We made it through, but I had to hold him in the gathering space outside church since he was restless.

So, I finally felt God calling me back to a regular Mass attendance. That I had been healed and would be okay. I decided last Saturday that I would get up early and attend 7:30am Mass to begin my new weekly routine of attending Mass (BTW, my husband has always taken the older kids to Mass each week. This is my personal struggle). I set my alarm, got up early, and was in the shower when my husband reminded me that the time had changed (spring forward) and that we could all go to Mass as a family.

I was shocked. Time change? What? I have to go with my family? I have to face my fears.....TODAY? I was not ready for this, I was merely going to start attending alone and then ease into the family attendance. But God had different plans and used my new conviction coupled with a forgetful mind to orchestrate our morning. I was a bit scared, but was in awe at the same time. I had no excuse now, I was up and ready, everybody was healthy, and I had made my promise.

All I could do was go to Mass and humbly pray, "Well played, God. Well played!".

Lara, good for you! Sometimes, things play out that way. God gave you a little push once He knew you were ready, even if you didn't!!

God Bless!
