Months ago, I bought TT5 (used) for my son this year. He's finally ready for it... but we just found out that the $80 we spent was for an older version that is NOT Mac compatible. Non refundable. 
My other son is in LoF Butterflies. Somewhere in reorganizing our school room and going a couple weeks with NO formal school and Christmas and traveling... the book is lost and nowhere to be found.
I'm drowning in laundry and books waiting for dh to build shelves for us. Can't find anything. Can't order anything. Living in chaos... with a baby on the hip who demands my every waking moment and a toddler who STILL insists on finding trouble wherever possible.
And now we can't do math.
So I am left debating what's more important... cleaning and ordering what I can... or sitting down and reading living history books and plugging in Visual Latin videos attempting to create some semblance of schooling... all with very resistant, temperamental children who'd rather play board games all day (at least until the toddler ruins the game by flushing pieces down the toilet)
Homeschooling is so very difficult! And expensive! Thank you God for such sanctifying crosses! May I not squander them and instead use them for your glory, the conversion of sinners and the purification of my soul!

Sounds like it may be a good time for review on basic operations in math.. always can use a bit more practise in doing adding or multiplication so that you're not bogged down by those when doing math. Lots of math games you can play (maybe board games  )
Sometimes I just need to take a breath and take a day and let myself have some time rather than hunting frantically for an item.
But on the pity party.. nothing is going well here this week.. I'm just holding on at this point hoping to get some basics done so that I can hopefully get things going better next week.

Many hugs, Ellie. It IS hard, and some weeks or months are harder than others.
Just this morning, I realized for the bazillionth time how much I hate teaching a child how to read. It is SO tedious. I will never forget how, when my oldest was learning, he sounded out, "buh-ah-tuh" and then said, "lighthouse?" yk, cause the sketch of the bat might have looked like a lighthouse  Hair rending does not begin to describe how I feel about this process
And the current young reader has also LOST his Explode the Code workbook, and I really don't want to buy a new one 
And we finally did a puzzle reckoning last week of all the pieces, boxes, and bags in the huge tub, and we own exactly ONE puzzle with all the pieces, including all the floor puzzles, some of which have pieces the size of my head. 
And, my toddler is amazing. Seriously, I had three active boys before him, but he brings trouble to a whole new level.
Yk, as long as we're feeling sorry for ourselves

Oh, but if I might add my silver lining, I found out today that the I See Sam readers I use now come as an affordable, interactive app for the iPad, which MAY result in a wee bit more independent learning for my little guy.

Oh goodness I dont even count the toddler mischief. I tell people I'm "shell shocked".. not only are they very BUSY but I've had a toddler underfoot so long and they are so over and above in some ways (like climbing) that I am just numb from it.

Oh Ellie,
I am so sorry! What a bummer. I would vote for extending Christmas break to include a week of teacher inservice (otherwise known as tear the house apart and put it back together week). The kids will of course have to play board games, card games, possibly measure and cut wood for shelves, compose a list of easy to prepare meals (that is composition, right? ) and prepare those meals (home ec) and review basic operations as Jodie said.

After an hour of 3 man football in mittens and hats, the lads have completed copywork without whining and are eager to get back to Ben Franklin...
 (small successes mean everything)

You know it. Yay for small successes!
And re math, I would tread water however you can while figuring out what to do: math board games, online math games, basic skills review . . . whatever you can cheaply and easily do in the name of "review and rewire," and preferably whatever *they* can do without a whole lot of mom-supervision, so that you can concentrate on lining up those ducks that don't want to be in a row.
But bleah. Bleah on anything non-Mac-compatible. Do try to resell, so that you have some cash to spend on the right thing. (and yes, I would be weeping at that realization, and at the thought of having to go to the trouble of selling something when all I wanted was to do math, for crying out loud).
Here, I don't feel like doing school, but we've been off forever . . . so we're sort of schlumping back into it . . . All I really want to do is dig in my garden in preparation for spring . . .

More later, but first - yuck! Sorry, I've been there too. We did some reorganizing over Christmas break - everything but school stuff, though. But still helpful for the mind.
Okay, two quick thoughts -you probably don't want to start something new at this point but if you did, you could - for the cost of ink and paper- print MEP for both kiddos to use in the interim. Maybe an old turn of the century " number story " book for the little one on google books? Or for the older, have him watch some videos and do exercises on Kahn Academy. They have videos for all of 3rd grade singapore, but also all sorts of math from basic 2 digit addition to algebra and above. You can track the exercises they've completed. and they get points or something. Most of all, prayers. I've been there. More often than not, I'm afraid.

That is great success-
You might not want any ideas for math- but for what it is worth, the Khan academy now has math right from addition up and it comes with nifty practices that you do right on the screen after the lesson- if the child doesn't get the questions the lesson is right there to rewatch. It is sort of like Visual Latin for math (organised, easy to pick up and go, and not at all mom intensive!). And no, I get no kickbacks for my good review!
