Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our situation for Christmas morning will be a bit different this year since my mom is coming to stay with us. She is older and not doing well physically. Usually the kids are up by 6 (at the latest ) and my dh and I torture them by making them wait until we make some coffee before we go downstairs, where the tree is. This year, since they will need to wait for grandma, the torturous wait is going to be even longer! I was thinking of having their stockings by our upstairs fireplace. Then they can get into those while they are waiting for grandma. Any ideas for some things I can put in the stockings that will give them an activity for while they are waiting? Other than coloring and hot coco I'm at a loss. I'm mostly thinking of the littles - 9 and younger. The older kids can handle the wait ... maybe!

My boys always like the Dover Little Activities books, and for the little ones who can't read yet, the Little Sticker Books would be especially fun and something they could work on independently.

ETA: Their Learning About series also has stickers in the back that are moved to the appropriate pages.

Small lego packs. You know the little bags or boxes - they usually don't have too many pieces and your older one's will be occupied because they will have to help the younger kids put them together.

I bought one of these dot-to-dot books for my son more as a way to practice "penmanship" (holding the pencil properly, steady lines etc.) and he had it out the other day and DD 13 said "I want one of those!" So I went to Amazon and they go all the way up to book 8 and number into the 1000s!!

I think I'm going to order book 5 for DD. Here's the link so you can see the others.

Dot to Dot book (for older kids)

Maybe a quick hundred piece puzzle... these always take longer than you think but don't seem overwhelming, especially if a few kids are working together.

Today on Amazon select Ravensburger puzzles are up to 50% off.
I saw some really cute girl ones with 60-100 pieces: fairies and ballet scenes, under $10.

those small boxes of fun cereal so that they can get something to eat.. it makes waiting easier

What about some sort of travel games? or card games? those fit in a stocking well.. like a travel snakes and ladders or checkers or even tic tac toe?
