For typepad users, how did you get pictures in your sidebar for your books. I thought I had finally figured it out, but when you checked the link it would not have my Amazon associates id in it. Please, please someone help me. I've spent 3 days on this.

KC, it looks like your associates links are working now, so all you need to do is change the configuration of the typelist to show thumbnails, if you want the pictures to show.

Lissa, correct me if I'm doing this wrong. First, I can't figure out where to get my thumbnails to works, but I have I believe found where everything is going wrong. However, I just found the place where you can enter your ID number on the author's profile. So, that's my first mistake. The links you see were made using the link type of typelist. Here's what I've experimented with.
Using the typelist "Reading" this is what I did: Using the "Product" type I built a link for whatever book. Then I transfered the info onto the notes section of the typelist. I put in the nifty target="new" Lissa was talking about in another post. This made exactly what I wanted, but of course the id was not working correctly. Anyway, if I can get into the Amazon associates website, I'm going to try again.
I fiddled around with the Amazon site before finally hitting upon the right combo.
Lissa, if you have a moment, please let me know if this is the best way to do it--if you can understand what I'm talking about.
Donna, I know what you mean about feeling dizzy with all this stuff. Sometimes I wonder that I was actually a programming major for 2 years before deciding it was not for me. I guess I was right.

Aha, I think I see where you're going astray. With a Typelist, you don't need to bother building the product links at the Amazon Associates site. Just go to your Reading Typelist, click "new item," and enter the name of the book and the author. Leave the notes section blank. Click save, and in a second the thumbnail photo of your book should pop up.
(On rare occasions, it does not--in that case, go to the regular Amazon site, not the Associates site, and look up the book. Scroll down to find the ISBN or the ASIN number, and paste that into the ISBN box on your Typelist's "new item" window. The correct thumbnail should now appear.)
Use the Associates "Build Links" process for links you want to put in the body of a post. But for the Typelist, all you have to do is enter the info above. The link is created automatically, and since you've entered your Associates ID in your author profile, the automatic links will include your account.
If you want the pictures to appear in your sidebar along with the title/author link, click "Edit Configuration" for the Typelist and make sure "show thumbnails" is selected.
Does that all make sense? Typepad's Reading typelists are designed to automatically fetch the link info from Amazon. Very clever of Amazon to partner w/ Typepad in this way, isn't it...

Donna Marie, you need to put your ring code in a Typelist. Here's how:
Create a Links Typelist. You can call it Real Learning Webring or anything you like. Configure it to "display notes as text."
Click "add new item." Leave the URL and name blanks empty. You're going to paste your ring code into the notes area. I just emailed you the code, so copy and paste that into the box.
Then go to Weblogs--Design--Change Content Selections--to add your new webring Typelist to your sidebar.
Holler if you get stuck!
