Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need help instilling this habit in MYSELF.      I really think that my boredom in school as well as my constant multitasking and my advanced age has really taken a toll on my attention. I have been teaching myself Latin and I have to give my full attention so I am hoping that will help. It is just so common for me to read a few pages and realize I wasn't paying attention or to not even be able to give my full attention to something.

I have been working on this with my kids and their attention is amazing. Then again, they haven't been exposed to countless years of twaddle.      I would love to hear your ideas!

Me too. I'm thinking of making myself read "hard stuff" for 20 minutes every day before getting online at all, at least during lent. The past two years have shown a decline in this area, and as someone who used to read profusely, it is humbling to realize I'm struggling with this.

I've been working on this myself. In fact, I joined the 52 books in 52 weeks challenge largely because I had found I just wasn't able to read long or difficult works as easily as I used to. So I made reading a priority, cut back on computer time (especially spider solitaire)and started off with lighter reads until I got my stamina up. Now I find my old brain kicking into high gear again and am very pleased with the results.
For lent I am thinking of cutting back even more on the computer and replacing that time with an additional brain-stimulating activity (which I have yet to decide on). I figure if I want to stave off Alzheimer's (which runs in my family) I had better start those brain calisthenics now!
So, good luck to you! I know it can be done as I have seen great results in only 6 weeks!
