Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I can’t believe I might be in the DC area twice in one year....but we are contemplating going to DC to check out Catholic University for my senior, and are sort of thinking of bringing the whole hee haw gang to see the sights just for a day or two. Do any of you know of any really inexpensive hotel options? Would it be a lot cheaper to stay an hour or so from the downtown area, or would we end up eating up the savings in gas and tolls? I was sort of struck by how many tolls you pay as you drive around the area, good grief!

The only way my son could attend CUA is with a ton of scholarships and a miracle or two BUT, they are one of the few schools with an actual School of Philosophy, and that is what ds wants to study. He is a passionate Thomist scholar at 18, and I can assure you it is due to NOTHING he has inherited from me. (remember, I do g-tubes and trachs, not big questions )

Any thoughts about hotel options?

Thanks!!

Depending how far out you want to be, I would look the suburbs with hotels near the Metro or at least having shuttles to the Metro,

Check in the Fair Oaks area. It is close enough to the Vienna Metro, but cheaper than staying closer to the city. Many of the hotels offer free continential breakfasts too.

If you want to drive to CUA, you might be able to stay in Bowie...let me ask some folks at Co-op tomorrow for ideas. With so many family members, the advantages of taking Metro are few...the cost of farecards and weekday parking might exceed the cost of driving to DC and paying to park there.

If you have a large van, you might need to do research on where you could park it. (I know that the parking lot at the Basilica is just an open lot, but I don't know about CUA itself.) Our Co-op has had a lot of difficulties with parking of 12-pax vans in Baltimore, so now I think about this every time I suggest the drive/park option.
