Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi everyone,

Our homeschool support group is thinking of making a cookbook where everyone can contribute a recipe or two, and I've volunteered to figure out the mechanics of it.

Has anyone done this kind of small-scale publishing that would like to share som ideas/tips for making it attractive yet inexpensive? I always think "Kinko's" when I have a printing job, but maybe there are other ideas. Using my own printer is not an option..I'm lucky to get anything more than black and white on the thing. I'm guessing it would be 50-60 pages, front and back on heavy paper with a cardstock-type cover?

Thanks!

That sounds like a fun idea!

Our homeschool group put together a yearbook last year and I was pleasantly surprised to find how reasonably we could have it printed at a local print shop. Our book was 32 pages (8.5 x 11) with a heavier cover. We actually printed in full color and the books were $5/each. It was staple bound (just like a small magazine). We had a lot of positive comments from the moms and children.

I worked with the jr. high girls to put it together and we saved each page as a pdf and emailed them to the printing company. The printer had it ready for pickup in a day or so.

HTH! Good luck with your project!

One my FIL's family did instead of a heavier cardboard cover.. it had a clear plastic cover with the front of the cookbook the same type of paper as the rest. I can't say I was impressed with the comb binding though. mine got heated up (sun I think) and warped.. I took off the plastic comb and threaded it with a narrow ribbon which works much better.
