We're starting school next week. I don't want to think about that. I don't want to think about my dh's health problems, or my sons, or everyone else's. I don't want to think about the company coming this weekend.
I just want to sit here with you fine ladies and gentleman. Sipping tea and eating chocolate chip cookies.
So...what's up?
This week I stripped off all the gross wallpaper in our kitchen. I sanded today and now I'm too tired to patch and prime. I think our kitchen may look awful for awhile.
Would anyone like a cookie?

Passing around the cookies...
I'm in denial too Joann! I have planned as far as "go to Mass". After that, it's anyone's guess. I have curricula to use I'm just not sure how to attack it, I guess.
Admitting I don't *actually* have cookies here, but the cocoa-sunbutter-kefir-banana shake I just made myself is pretty yummy!

oh I want cookies.. the kids are finishing up the second coat of paint in most of the bedroom.. I'll have to do the second coat in the top of the closet.. it's tricky with the close spacing.
And this isn't just a one room thing.. this is a whole long sequences of events.. switching two bedrooms, swithcing furniture around, having to paint 2 bedrooms (one not one of the ones being switched) and paint some furniture.. anyway.. we're pushing on through.. my poor dh.. was out on lightning fires this week and came home with no indication that we'd started this major project

Oh, this is perfect! Enjoy the tea ladies! I'll have mint please! I confess, earlier this afternoon I finished off the last of a big chucky chocolate chip cookie ds brought home from work recently ~ wish I could've shared, it was scrum~dilly~icious!
This is the perfect break after unloading and organizing curriculum arrivals that came earlier today! I have no idea how or when I will plan how we're going to use it all (I usually do this type of thing earlier in the year but really didn't have the time, energy, health or finances any earlier) I am just SO grateful things are here and that we're so incredibly blessed to homeschool yet another year ~ the details don't seem all that crucial right now!
All of your projects sound wonderful(and exhausting)! It helps so much to do things in bits and pieces! When we worked on our house last Summer, painting most of the rooms for the first time since we moved here, it helped SO much to pace ourselves! Tea or snack breaks are a lifesaver!
I will be praying for those of you in the midst of projects, with MUCH empathy! Meanwhile, enjoy these few moments of Chat~n~Tea!!!

Well I'm about to head back in and so the last bits of finishing up so I thought I'd pop back in here.
I haven't bought curriculum yet.. it may wait a bit until the money is available.. we're got a trip for a good friend's wedding (and we're being treated rather like family so it's more than just a friend you know) so I think maybe we'll do some stuff on the things we'll see there and back again and start the "real" curriculum after that.
Oh and this tea party reminds me. I've been stocking up on herbs for teas.. I want to do more tea parties this winter.. and I think it'll be fun to be able to pick out different combos and find things we particularly like.
oh and shhhhhh my sister was putting a pretty rose teapot into the yard sale.. and I've snagged it for my oldest daughter to get her own teapot as a Christmas gift

I just finished Stage 2 of putting things away and organizing (many more yet to come) ~ I've had a great deal of help from St. Anthony, who always seems to guide me in spite of major menopausal memory lapses!
Herb blends and a special teapot ~ those will sure make for memorable teatimes! I've sure enjoyed this one! Back to work!

Just got my tea and a Larabar, Amy. It's nice to see you here!
The grandparents have my older 3 at the pool right now. The 2 youngest are napping, and the twins are upstairs... eerily quiet. I'll have to check them in a minute.
My dh just gave me his travel schedule for September, and it is not something I want to think about either. So I'm entertaining myself by thinking about what walls we could tear down/move or add on in order to make this house fit us. Right now it's all in my head and doesn't involve money or work so it's fun.

Now you have me scrounging for cookies! Oh wait! There's a stray chocolate chip that must have fallen out of the bag!
I do have my planning done, but my house is a wreck. I'm jealous of those of you who are actually getting some painting done. I wish I could afford to just hire someone to come in and take care of it. For that matter, it would be nice to hire someone to come and clean too!
My big project this week is getting our school room ready to go. It's getting there, ever so slowly.
And, speaking of tea, can anyone recommend a good black tea? I like Irish or English Breakfast teas, but I'm always looking for good brands.
Thanks for the fun thread Amy!

I just sat down (is that allowed? to sit down in the middle of the day?). I just put my girls down for their daily quiet time, and I had every intention of grabbing some of my favorite gourmet chocolate and realized that I left all of my beloved bars in our travel trailer ... which is parked at the new house we are building, 50 miles away. sigh At least I'm not too proud to just grab a little bowl of chocolate chips, afterall, I really don't care what shape the chocolate comes in ... which reminds me, I still have a chocolate bunny hidden away somewhere from this year's Easter ... must dig that out later.
In the meantime, can I vent?
I'm so completely overwhelmed with life right now ... so much so that my headaches and migraines have returned with a vengence. My days are filled with taking care of the decision making and shopping for the new house that we are building - not so much fun when you're taking along your children and the ability to really shop and make good decisions is completly hiddered because they are fighting over who gets to push the cart, and the 2 year old has perfected her acrobatics and can wiggle her way out of any seat-belt situation, then she's off and running in the store.
Then, this is actually the good part, we have some friends who are interested in buying our house. We haven't even put it on the market yet and it is FAR, far from being ready to do so. So ... I need to get things in tip-top shape before I open my front door and so much as let them use my bathroom ... not if there's a chance they'll BUY it. So I bought some paint today ... enough said ... I have my work cut out for me, that's for sure. I can hardly believe how many little finger prints, food stains, and boogers litter my walls. Honestly ...
School, planning? That lovely rich life that I strive to give my girls each and every day? Well, that's been taken over by The Cat in the Hat, Bubbles Guppies and Dora. I threw in a Leap Frog Letter Factory just to ease the guilt. I'm afraid that I must make time to plan out this year because my time is already taken up with building a new house, selling our current house, helping to teach our homeschool co-op, and preparing for twins to arrive right around Christmas .. which, by the way, just may just be cutting it all to close to when we are moving! And I just know that after our little babies arrive any and all spontaneity will be tossed out the window. I need to be more structured with our time, or nothing will happen.
Have I mentioned that my hips hurt? Icing on the cake.
That was actually quite cathartic. Thank you

Ugh. Are we all in the midst of painting projects????????? My kitchen is done and looks so lovely and cheery!!! A medium golden yellow....in a rich hue. It's very warm. Looks lovely with my big cranberry cabinet. Finished the master bathroom, too...in the most delightful Robin's Egg Blue! I just love it!!!! So much so, that the 1/2 bath attached to the kitchen will also be Robin's Egg Blue, and that's what we're working on now! Truthfully, we had 3/4 of a gallon left and paint is too expensive not to use!! But, I really do love the color!

I'm terribly thrilled you're here with us, Joann...and now I'm a smidge jealous I didn't ask for the chocolate-chip bar! That sounds DELISH! I give you complete permission to continue your state of denial as long as it takes you to savor that chocolate chip bar!

Oh dear! $$Plan B$$???? Can we help you brainstorm a very frugal but delightful 9 yo b-day party?? A Plan C??????
***************************************************
I am reveling in my most recent thrift store purchases - an entirely unmatching set of the prettiest and most useful and functional drinking glasses. I paid $2 for all of them (about 12 - 14, I guess), and I'm delighted! My little kids love the shorter, thinner glasses which have a full size mug handle attached! How perfect is that for little hands? I love that all of these have a nice vintage weight and look to them. They're the thicker, rounded glass which looks lovely! I think they'll be pretty (and TERRIBLY functional!!) in my delightfully warm, sunny kitchen, amidst my vintage white plates.
I'm gearing up to brainstorm a way to make the 3rd night of taco meat leftovers sound appealing to a crew that is loathe to eat leftovers again....thus the 3rd night of them. Must get to brainstorming that!!!
And, after that, more painting of that cheery Robin's Egg Blue in my little bathroom!
Having a last sip of tea....and eyeing that other pecan sandy!
to you for always starting the cheeriest threads, Amy!!!

Oh Chris.. I had to shop with all the kids in tow.. a couple of hints..
Get multiple carts.. no fighting and who cares if you don't really need them.. put some things in each cart
I found it much easier with children who could wiggle out of seatbelts to give that decision to them.. sorta.
If you will sit in the cart/stroller I won't put the seatbelt on. If you don't sit.. then I'll have to put the seatbelt on. This worked a lot of the time because they felt more in control and had more freedom if they used it wisely. If not.. the one thing they're struggling for, more freedom, is what's taken away.
My other part of this is... carry a harness with leash with you no matter where you are.. 1) harness on and seatbelt threaded through is much harder to escape from (overalls also can work). And 2) it gives you the option to let the child walk with the harness on instead of having to sit in the cart. AND then you have the restriction of freedom consequence again.. if you don't walk nicely with me in the harness I'll have to put you in the cart with the seatbelt on.

Oh Jen! It may sound like overachieving but honestly it's the lazy way.. really. Because if I don't paint while the rooms are empty from the switch.. it's either be horrendously difficult to paint around the stuff or I'll have to move everything AGAIN.
And it's the rearranging that NEEDS to happen.. the painting should be done so I'm just taking advantage of the empty rooms to do that.

to you!!! You have some worthwhile projects going on right now, not the least of which is nurturing two itty-bitty ones. This season is temporary, and so are the challenges that accompany it!! Overwhelming, but temporary. Live it out and take the little joys wherever you can get 'em!!

I'm glad you could vent! Your kiddos are still quite young, so I would really give myself permission to let the idea of a totally planned year go!!! If you have a reader or an emerging reader, have a goal of sitting down to read together for a little bit each day. EVERYTHING else will come easily next year. AND....you have some great opportunities to homeschool real life lessons....give them jobs in the cart, counting amounts, watching out for the little sale flags, looking for specific items on an aisle, etc. Name colors while you're out. Sing and listen to music while you're driving. Play Leap Frog liberally!! And call it good enough for the year!
You're doing great, and your new home will be wonderful and so will those little ones when they arrive! There will be quieter seasons. This is just not one of them, but they will come, I promise!!! In the meantime, have another cookie!!!!

Excellent, Jodie. Excellent. Why did I not think of this? I must implement this next time

Such good advice, Jodie! I have a little harness for the toddlers but it has become a toy around the house (they pretend to be a dog and the other "walks" them around the yard ), so I always forget to bring it with me ... in fact, I'll put it in the car before I forget once again.
Another good trick I've learned is to keep my shopping excursions brief (which is sometimes a lot easier said than done). I have to do my homework before actually setting foot in the store, that way I can minimize the time we are in there. Afterall, there's only so much I can expect from a 6, 4, and 2 year old in a hardware store

I am so happy to sit down with you all while the kids have a "quiet time" looking at books in the other room. I just poured myself some cold coffee and plopped a few scoops of vanilla ice cream in, so I'm ready to go in the beverage department! Love cold, creamy coffee on warm summer afternoons.

I am so glad you were able to vent, Chris, and I just cannot imagine how much you have on your plate right now!! You are a Superwoman to be doing it all at once, truly! We just bought a house and I'm due in a couple weeks, but I only have *one* baby on the way and we're not building this house from scratch or worrying about selling another...and even I'm pretty stressed! So prayers coming your way.
Funny that almost all of us seem to have some kind of home improvement projects going on! I am trying to figure out curtains right now, which has been a real trial because I would *love* to sew my own but the fabrics I like are so expensive! Ugh. Light fixtures are next on the list, and then furniture...we're racing against the clock as we decide how much we can get done before baby arrives and what will have to wait for a few months. My mind just cannot take visual clutter around the house, so I am itching to get everything settled and unpacked, but we have to work on baby's timeline, of course. A lesson in patience for me.
And I am so very thankful that my two oldest will only be "doing kindergarten" this year and that I don't have to plan any formal learning quite yet!
