Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I could list all sorts of blessing 4Real Forums has been in my life, but one that is particularly on my mind is "name dropping". That has been so key for me over the years.

And what do I mean? I mean dropping names of book titles, favorite illustrations, favorite artists, favorite authors, living books, picture books, living series, movie titles, great audio recordings....

The "name dropping" of favorites and classics and good material has been such a blessing!

It's seeing these names through the years without even making a list I can recognize a name in a bookshop or thrift store. The familiarity of these names makes me take them home, introduce them to my family and then they aren't just names, but part of the family.

One could say 4Real has enabled my book buying habit, but really I think it has enhanced it, helping make good choices.

Absolutely! So many great recommendations here that I wouldn't have known about otherwise. Makes library and bookstore trips so much easier knowing I have a full catalog of great choices stored up in my old noggin!
And now with the e-book option I can actually get a lot of the older OOP books we've talked about, too!
You ladies really are a treasure!

Ditto Jenn

I'm certainly very much a newbie on this forum, but it has been an amazing year to be able to turn to this group as a wonderful source & resource for our living education.

Not just the advice & experience and current conversations, but most certainly hitting the search button before making a purchase and finding a genuine review of books/materials.

Same here,Jen. I was especially grateful a few years ago when I had only dial-up and it would take forever to just load the simplest of pages!!! I was so happy to have you all "do the dootwork" so to speak and I trusted the like-minded judgement of those on the board, so I could make a purchase or try a certain method etc. with a bit of confidence. Thankfully, I have an air-card now (thank you Lord!!) but I still love the recommendations and name-dropping. It has made our hs experience much richer.

Absolutely, Jenn! Our home library is so wonderfully enriched by the generous sharing here!

Which reminds me....I am so excited to share a fabulous new (old) book I've found that is SO wonderful for our Morning Basket time! The book is actually meant for morning work, a sort of setting-the-tone-with-a-noble-thought kind of book! It's a book of tiny little virtue lessons - one for each day of the month! (Not Catholic, but certainly based on Christian ideals and values.) Super short little daily lessons...some built on poetry, others from short excerpts from great literature, some days there are suggested songs or music. It's quite lovely! Are you curious???    I hate to leave you hanging...but I need to make dinner. Hopefully I can link you later tonight!

Okay Jen, its is now 9:48 my time which means 8:48 your time, dinner should be done

When I saw the title of this thread I was very curious and could not agree more with Jenn's statement!!!

I am actually very happy when I walk into our very poorly laid out used bookstore and can catch a great title just because one of you ladies mentioned the author!!!! And all those links to wonderful resources!!!

BTW: Thank you all for the "name dropping" over the last two years, I'm sure my homeschooling would not be the same without you all, just ask my hubby

It is...but now it's wine time!

Seriously ...I'm working on my little review...trying to decide where to put it! I'll link to it here on this thread when I post.

My husband agrees with the first statement, I agree with the second!

It definitely helps to know about quality resources, particularly when shopping online.

I know that when I see a recommended title here (or CD, or whatever), I will really and truly like it, because we're all here for basically the same reasons.

(Speaking of which, the latest Penderwicks book is great! Just finished it a couple of days ago!)

That series is just lovely...real-kid thoughts, dreams and plot twists...
