Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm thinking that I won't dig this mini-series, but wanted to check you the board to see if anyone had any first (or even second) hand knowledge of it.

Thanks!

Hmmm ... I watched it when it was on TV here soon after it was made and enjoyed it, but remember very little about it. Probably I enjoyed it because it was so rare to see anything on TV with a Catholic theme. However, at that time I wouldn't have used the same criteria to judge it that I would now, so please don't take that as a recommendation .

I watched it a few weeks ago, after having watched it when it first came out. It is sad...

Basically, a liberal woman becomes a nun in a teaching order, after losing her virginity to her fiance and deciding she does not want to marry him. She disrupts some of the goings on at the convent but is an inspiration to another young postulant. There are sub stories about the students. One ends up having a baby, one decides to join the sisters, but in the end, I think she does not, though it's not clear. That girl's mother is stressed from having too many children, and is disappointed, as are all the characters, when Paul VI refuses to allow artificial contraception.
In the end, after basically ruining the order, the liberal nun leaves and goes on a lecture tour to enlighten people.

Funny, but when I saw it the first time, I really hated it. It seemed as though all of the dissenting characters were supposed to be the heroes. That may be the case, but now I see the entire film as an unintentional indictment of liberality in the church. It is a tragedy, no doubt.

Mmm,
Well it came out when I was in highschool and I remember my mother being really upset and saying it was another anti-Catholic movie. So obviously I didn't watch it. So I can't say I have seen it I just remember Catholics here in Australia being very upset by it.
