I'm thinking about starting a blog... I used to have one and I enjoyed it, but when we found out we had to move (quickly) I stopped blogging. I haven't deleted that blog, but don't really want to pick up where I left off. I really would just like to start fresh. So how did you chose your platform? I'm looking at the various ones out there: Blogger (more on that one in a minute), Wordpress, Typepad, Homeschoolblogger - not sure what to choose. I'd want something that was easy (I'm not very tech savvy), free, and something where I could have three columns. My old blog was on blogger, and lately I've been looking at blogs on this platform that behave strangely. Let me try to explain: I've looked at several blogs where when I get to the bottom of the main page I click to go to the second page (older posts). It takes me to the next page of posts... but the address bar address remains the same , so if I've looked at, say, four pages and want to go back and see a post on page 2 I can't. I know, I know, I just really lost anyone trying to read this. I'm going to step away and see if I can figure out to explain while I get my dd off to school...

I know what you're talking about, seeker. I have a blogger blog (for several years now) and it doesn't always behave. The other day I couldn't even get my blog to link to any older posts off the home page. It will go to older posts beyond the home page now, but does just as you say, the url remains the same as the home page so if you're 14 pages into the archives of a blog, clicking the back browser button actually takes you to the previous page you viewed...NOT the last page of the blog archives you've been looking at. (**NOTE** solution...if you want to keep up with different pages as you jog through a blog, just open each new page in a new tab, or as you look through, just open a specific post you want to remember in a new tab. I....ahem...LOVE tabs, and it isn't unusual for me to have 20-30 open at once! )
There are likely going to be bugs with any weblog platform. My advice to you is to choose the platform that best fits your needs (what do you want to do in blogging: journal your family's days?, record home ed stuff?, a combo?, something altogether different? private or publicly readable?), and then dabble around a bit and choose the platform that is most intuitive to you.
I will say this about blogger, their hosting is free, and they are often working on bugs and upgrading and updating. I think it's probably also the easiest platform to just step right into. Overall, I've been pleased with their hosting over the last 4 years of blogging with them. I have friends who much prefer Wordpress blogging services. So...it's really just about your needs and what seems to make the most sense to you!

Thank you, Jen! Your blog was the first one that came to mind when I was posting this. The other day it did just as you said... this morning it was fine
Oh, and the tabs I don't know that I've ever had 20 tabs open, but I love them, too! Now, dh... he doesn't like it too well when I have tons of them up

Well, I did it! I did decide to go back with blogger. The platform is something I'm used to. I couldn't gain access to my old account no matter what I tried so I'm starting back at square one. I agonized over a blog title, but I think I like it. Still not sure about my subtitle, but I can always change it later. SO without further ado:

It looks very nice seeker! For a newbie i'd say you did a great job with your template.

My husband was reading it this morning and didn't like the post font... said it hurt his eyes. I have to admit that when I published my first post and read it in that font I wasn't sure about it either. I chose it because it's so much like my own handwriting, but I may end up changing it...

It looks great. I love the colors. We just started one the last couple of days too. I honestly haven't considered any potential cliches beyond just journaling here and there, but then again it is the first time I'm trying this. Maybe I should have done a little more research . Thanks for sharing.

I love the title and the colors! Looks wonderful. I will just make a small suggestion to make the text more readable you might want to pick an "ordinary" font. With the business of the background and the odd font makes it harder to read.

I enjoyed reading your posts but I would have to say I found the font difficult too. Love the colours. Blogger is easy to work with, but then I'm sure others are too, it's often what you are familiar with.

Toyed around with the font this afternoon. I switched the font in my posts with the font in my title. Hopefully it's easier to read now. Thanks for all the great advice, ladies!
