Hello all, it's a long time since I've been here *waves*
Now in need of your opinions. What do you think of the name Aloysius? Too weird?
Number 5 is due in September and we're pondering...

It is the name of my great-uncle (nickname "Alex") - one of the most-loved, most-missed members of our family. I vote yes!

It's dh's middle name and #5's middle name. I like it, but be prepared to have to spell it everywhere you go.

I have a story about that!
One of my dear friends from many duty stations ago had a common first name spelled in an unusual way (think "Mari" for "Mary" or something like that). Her last name was White. She told me a hilarious story about how she was so glad to trade her unspellable maiden name for White...until she found out that she still had to spell it out for people. "How do you spell that?" a mail order clerk would say. "White, like the color," replied my friend. "Yes, so, uh, how do you spell that?"
It takes all kinds...thank you, dear Lord, for blessing us with senses of humor!

I had one of those names growing up Nancy.. such an ordinary word that people think they mishear it or that it must have a special european spelling or something.. it's just easier to spell than explain.
Pretty much even if you use the more common spelling.. if there's a used often alternate people will ask how you spell it anyway.. because sure as you don't that person will know someone who spelling it differently and use that spelling anyway
There's a few names that don't really have any odd spellings.. like Dave.. but most of us will end up spelling our names more often than we ever thought we would. The one thing I'd try and avoid in spellings is something that is so close to a more common spelling that even when you spell it for them it gets written wrong, or if written right might be filed wrong. And yes it does happen.
