I am holding onto some extra baby weight, and cannot fit into my pre-pregnancy pants - BUT - I have no motivation to lose weight. Absolutely none! I don't have the money to buy all new pants (and I truly do need to lose a few pounds), but that doesn't seem to motivate me to exercise. I used to be an avid exerciser - doing the Jazzercise thing for a while, running, walking, weights, and videos. I also enjoy working out, so I can't figure out why I'm so unmotivated?
Hmmm, maybe it's the short days? I do have a bum knee after this last pregnancy. I wonder if that's messing with my subconscious? I'm just at a loss.

Lara, how is your energy level in general? Are you getting enough sleep or are you up a lot with the baby? Are you drinking plenty of water? It sounds to me as if you are just plain tired.

I am tired, but I don't feel overly tired. Does that make sense?
Homeschooling (even though we only spend 1-2 hours on it a day) is mentally exhausting for some reason. Maybe that's driving my physical laziness?
Water --- Ah, water and me go round and round. I try very hard to drink enough, but I have no thirst. It's like my thirst-o-meter is broken. I usually have to count my glasses because I can't rely on how I feel. It's been like this my whole life.

I am in the same boat as you. I lost 50 pounds between my second and third baby. I was in the best shape I had been in since high school. I had planned to exercise throughout my third pregnancy, but got pulled off of exercise at around 4 months and put on bedrest at 7 months. I gained all 50 pounds back and it is so depressing. I can't get motivated at all either. I would have a couple of great weeks, not see any weight loss and then just fold it in. Maybe we could be workout partners and motivate each other. PM me if you are interested!

Maybe it is the short days. I don't know - at 4 months post partum I've always still been getting adjusted to life with the new dynamic created by introducing a new family member.
How would it work if you started with one healthy habit at a time? Not to make weight loss the priority, but every few weeks start another positive move for your own physical and mental well-being. Say, be sure to take your vitamins daily for the next three weeks. Somewhere I read that it takes 3 weeks to establish a new habit. So, the next 3 weeks, you make sure you get out in the sun for half an hour or fifteen minutes daily. You might adjust that goal to coincide with whenever the weather starts to get warmer where you live. Take the kids for a walk or go outside when they are playing, whatever. The next 3 weeks, wear a bit of make-up every day (if you're a make-up wearer).
I don;t mean to be pushing certain habits or to appear to be micro-managing your life. It's the idea I'm trying to convey. I'm just thinking that as each relatively small change gets added to the change before it, you'll be feeling a bit more positive and energized and that might be the push you need to kind of naturally get into better shape.
Peace,
Nancy

Lara, I have the same water issue. I'm really trying to boost my water intake because I am finding when I don't drink enough I really end up so fatigued. What is (more or less) working right now is that I have split up the day into three "sections"-8 to 12, 12 to 4, and 4 to 8. In each "section" I am trying to drink one large water bottle. Otherwise, I don't drink anything at all...
I think you might also wanted to consider post-partum depression as a possibility. Even if you haven't had any trouble with it in previous pregnancies, I found as I got older with each childbirth it was a little worse and lasted a little longer. Depression can make us feel as if nothing is worth doing, it can sap our mental and physical energy.
Be kind to yourself. Nancy's little steps are a great starting place. You are only a few short months post-partum; I will pray that you will feel more motivated soon.

This works well in other areas of my life, so appying it to weightloss/health should work as well. Thanks for reminding me of this simple way to ease into a routine.

I do the same. I try to drink a certain amount of glasses in between meals.

Oh, depression is a big thing for me! I have bouts of it for at least two years post-partum. It creeps up on me just when I think I'm getting better. Right now, at this moment, I *feel* pretty good.
I also think that in the back of my mind I'm just waiting for the weight to melt off. Usually I lose most of my baby weight with just nursing in the first few months. This time around I've gained a little bit - which is odd. Then again, I am of an Advanced Maternal Age (I dislike that designation, and I think the threshold gets younger every year)!

I had big plans of exercising in my third pregnancy, then I got lazy. With my fourth pregnancy I hurt my knee. I was laid up for a week with crutches, and then a knee brace for the latter part of my pregnancy. I still have issues with it (I have a torn cartlidge), but I'm trying really hard to avoid the surgery. I'm terrified of having surgery.
I just now had a thought! Maybe that is playing a part in my lack of motivation! I don't want to exercise and hurt my knee which will force me into a surgery! Yep, and that's just what I would do to protect myself.
Thanks everybody for the therapy session! I needed a virtual nudge!

Lara, t-tapp has a program for those with health problems (bad knees for instance) that you could even do from your chair.
Do you have anywhere you could go swimming a time or two a week?
And use the knee brace if you do any other sort of exercise to protect your knee from the exercise.
