background.. neighbor across the street went with dh to try and get Christmas trees in the forest the week after Thanksgiving.. they couldn't get in far enough to get to the fir trees because of the snow. He's national guard and apparently someone brought a bunch of trees in for all the people in NG.. but they had some left over so he brought us one..
we normally let the kids put up small trees in their bedrooms.. we only pay $5/tree for cutting permits..
Well Dave talked to a friend he has that lives up there.. and neighbor went with him and they met the friend where the plowed road ends.. but he came home with 3 trees even though we had one.
There's normally so many people that cut their own trees that none of the stores have any fresh trees left for sale.. and very few artificial trees and those are a lot more than $5.
So this afternoon a family from church calls and wants to know where and how we got trees.. so we offered them the extra tree we had.. leaving us with 3.
Now here the proud part... the neighbor came over to see if we had an extra tree because they found someone who couldn't get a tree. I left it up to the kids.. and the girls offered their tree (they had the taller of the two for the bedrooms). Then the boys offered to let the girls have their little real tree and they'd use the even smaller artificial tree I have for use as a display for the Christmas bazaar.
Oh and the neighbor came back and let us know.. they dropped off the tree near the front door.. knocked and ran away so they weren't seen
