Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm getting dh a Kindle for Christmas.

Do I need the screencover? One of those slipcases?

Anyone have any suggestions of must haves or not-worth-its?

I have a red hard leather cover for mine but no screen cover. I bring it with me everywhere and couldn't live without the sturdy cover. I'd recommend getting a light too---wish I had one!

oh, what a sweet wife you are, Kacky! hope your DH enjoys his Kindle!

I agree with Susan: the cover is pretty important. mine isn't hard or fancy but it works fine (it's soft and sort of padded; kind of feels like neoprene. the brand is Belkin). I don't have a screen or slipcover; the slipcovers look fun and I have been tempted but am trying to live more simply and they seem to be mostly decoration. (although some of them are REALLY PRETTY! and I STILL WANT ONE SOMETIMES! ) I imagine the screen would be a big help if you didn't have a cover, but otherwise I'm not sure it's needed. I haul mine around inside and outside (and drop it A LOT ) and aside from some minor scratches on the back it still looks great after a year of pretty heavy use.

a light is certainly necessary if he plans to read at night (I use a Lightwedge for my bedtime reading) but I've never needed it during the day. I already had the Lightwedge so I don't know if the clip-on lights would be better, but I like that mine fits in the case for easy storage and transport.

can I offer one piece of advice? your DH might want to start organizing his books into categories from the beginning. I didn't start doing that until I had way too many to sort through easily . just a tip ...

My dh once commented that I probably would've purchased either the Kindle or Nook right away if Vera Bradley made a cover for it.    And, he's right.
