Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My brother has started this year at Campion College a NEW CATHOLIC Liberal Arts University here in Australia. We are very excited about this opportunity, it is a small college to start with, 20 students, but it is solidly Catholic You should see his reading list, I was on brain overload just reading the list. Kieren was homeschooled for many years and funnily enough he says most of the students were homeschooled for all or some of their education.

Anyhow I thought I'd share the email he has just send me regards naming their new cafeteria as I know you will all have some fantastic ideas.

Hi All,

The cafeteria at Campion College is to be named by competition of submissions by students.

If the best name picked is suitable it will be used for its perminat name.

I am asking if anyone has any ideas to please come up with something.

Area I think might get attention would be to be named after a Saint who had something to do with food.

Also witty or funny ideas are good. As they might win.

NOt too cerebral, Erin but I instantly thought of "Friar Tuck" from Robin Hood -- a holy man who wanted the good for all but boy he could eat!

St. Paschal and St. Faustina both had angels do kitchen work for them, but my favorite is St. Lawrence who was "bar-b-qued" to death. I heard at one time that he was the patron of cooks, but I've never seen that anywhere official.

OK, now to a more serious suggestion:

in Ethel Pochocki's Once Upon a Time Saints -- there's a story about Benedict of San Fradello. He was a slave who later became a monk and then superior of the friary. He always said that no food should be wasted -- at least it could be scraped from the plates and given to the birds -- as the food "is the blood of those who have given it to us for the love of God."

Sounds appropriate to remind the college students not to waste even cafeteria food!

Mary and Rachel
These are some great suggestions, Mary I laughed over Friar Tuck, hadn't thought of that.
Rachel, I had also heard St Lawrence was the patron saints of cooks.

Dh suggested something along the lines of the "Mortification' or the "Indulgence" Depends on the cook.
