Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

You have a big Oktoberfest party planned for Saturday, with 45-50 people coming, and you have a couple of vomiting children today? The very real possibility is that I'll have two more vomiting children in the next couple of days, and dh and I could very well be in the same boat.

Would you carry on cleaning, shopping and cooking in the hopes that the virus is isolated and the party will go on as planned? Would you wait until the last minute (day before or morning of) to cancel?

You all know how things grind to a halt when kids are sick, and I don't know how I'm going to finish preparing for the party, and I don't know if I even should try.

If we cancel now and everyone is healthy this weekend, we will all be really disappointed.

So, give me some advice, help me decide what I should do...

Thanks!

I'd call it! I know how the vomiting virus spreads, how messy it is, and how long it can last.

I think I would inform people that the party in tentative, depending on the health of the household, (which would also give them the chance to decline if they are the type of people that don't like being around people when they are just over sickness...we aren't that way, but I do know people that are super picky) Maybe ask them what their plans for next weekend are in case you need to reschedule?

I would make a definite call the day before though, as if they are bringing food, they wouldn't have to make it, and would have time to make other plans for their day if they wanted to.

I'd be stuck too Lisa.. too many possible outcomes.. and I've had the one child get sick and be done.. I've had everyone in the house get sick.. and I've had the same child get sick.. be FINE for 36 hours and then get sick again.. it's pretty much impossible to predict.

I'd probably give myself until Thursday evening to decide and call that evening so that people would have time for other plans.

I've learned the hard way. We had a situation earlier this year when two vomitting kids seemed to be better. We went to a get together and before we knew it everyone at the gathering was sick within a weeks time, including the rest of my household. I still feel guilty about it . I would consider rescheduling and giving people the heads up on a possible virus. I'm sure they will be grateful for your thoughtfulness .

We have decided to postpone the party until next weekend. The bratwursts will be fine in the freezer, and I haven't shopped for the fresh items.

Thank you for your replies...I feel relieved with the decision!
