Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know next to nothing about the Charismatic movement so I thought I would ask this here... I went to this bible study last night and the Priest there had knowledge about scripture that absolutely blew me away( a scripture scholar that is well versed in Hebrew, amongst other things). It came out that he was a Charismatic Priest (this was not a Charismatic meeting, though)

Are there some things that I should be cautious of in regards to learning from someone that is charismatic...like I said, I know next to nothing and this priest seems even more orthodox than any I have met as of late.

I am just discerning and trying to answer the questions of my teens.

TIA!

Donna, I have zero experience with the Charismatic movement, but I'm going to watch this thread with GREAT interest!

It sounds like you were "knocked off your horse" (see below ) by a wonderful teacher, so it made me wonder "why not?"(again, see below).

A passage in Parenting with Grace. (Under Fostering the Teen's Own Spirituality pages 229-230)

...it is absolutely critical that your pre-adolescent or adolescent be given every possible opportunity to be knocked off his horse by a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit -- if this has not happened already. While there are perhaps many ways to foster this intense personal experience of Jesus Christ and his Holy Spirit, the way we are most familiar with -- and the way that has been most effective as far as we can tell -- is by finding some way to introduce your child to at least some elements of a more "charismatic" spirituality.
While we understand that "all that whooping and hollering" isn't for everyone, we cannot help but wonder, "why not?" We freely admit that charismatic worship lacks a certain decorum, but think about it, after the Apostles received the Sacrament of Confirmation at Pentecost, they didn't exactly sit down to a lovely continental breakfast in the church basement. They went screaming into the streets, dancing and shouting and proclaiming the Gospel so vociferously that they were accused of being drunk!

Hi Donna,

I am Charasmatic.
We are involved with an organisation in Australia called Disciples of Jesus covenant community. They formed around 20 years ago.

I know some wonderful Charasmatic Priests and they are exactly as you describe. So enjoy

I am a Charismatic Catholic also. I have been involved in Charismatic prayer groups and communities since I was 20. I have yet to meet a Charismatic priest who is not faithful to the Magisterium.
If you have more specific questions, I'll be glad to answer them to the extent I am able.

oh, I love the Charismatic movement! such a beautiful, heartfelt form of prayer. my parents first got involved when I was a young teen and they have been holding prayer meetings in their home for more than 25 years now. powerful stuff.

I'm a bit rusty on the details that teenagers may ask about but I wanted to chime in from a positive experience viewpoint. the spirit is certainly alive and moving!
