Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would like to get a general feel of what you consider your price range for book series or older books that you are collecting for your own home library.

Examples of series:
Dujarie Press
Vision Books
Landmark Books
Signature Series
Childhood of Famous Americans

I live in an area where homeschooling is very common, so even our used bookstores do cater to them. But prices can be marked up.

Landmark books are in high demand. World Landmarks seem to come by much cheaper. I do scour around and find a book here and there for cheaper but I'm finding the average prices at used bookstores are $8-10 a book. The Richard McKay bookstore puts $10 straight across the board.

What do you pay? $10 is a good price relatively speaking for a hardcover book, but I balk at the price. I only bought one yesterday because I was looking for that particular title for our upcoming school year. They had lots more, but I just couldn't handle the price.

To answer my own question, I *like* to pay $6.00 or less for a Landmark, but sometimes do stray if it's a rare title or one I'd like right now.

Vision Books I'd probably be lower, again except in cases of rare titles.

Rarer Catholic series like Clarion, Hawthorn, American Background I snatch and pay higher prices.

How about you?

I don't have a clue.

BUT, I'm begging you to publish an e-book or booklet or something of an anthology that lays out your used book series and titles and such in a form that we ignorant ones could stick in our purse for trips to the Used Book Store!

Landmark books are one or our favorites, and the only ones we collect from any series. Some of them are considered *rare*, and I have once or twice paid $20 for one I particularly wanted. Most of the others, depending on condition, are $4 to $10. That would be for *good* or *very good* condition..

Peace,
Nancy

A small size would be helpful, wouldn't it? "Reading the Saints" is good, but not exactly what I need. I want a list of each series, publisher info, maybe a small image of the publisher logo or symbol of series so I can recognize by the spine. Then for each book if the title doesn't say, mention what period or person it covers!

Also it should include a checklist to see what we already have. Can't tell you how many duplicates I've bought. How silly I feel when I dance around thinking I've found a rare Vision or Landmark only to go home and realize I've done the same dance before and I didn't remember?

Yes, I omitted that very important point about GOOD or VERY GOOD condition (dust jacket, etc.). It's not worth anything if it smells of smoke or mold. Some books are repairable, but need to be priced as such.

Oh no, I was there. My sister and I bought a huge lot of them around $2-4 each.

Oh, Kacky, we would never miss the book sale! We actually hit it two days this year. One lady that was stocking shelves realized I was picking up the Landmarks as she put them out. She then started seeking me out and just handed them all to me. It was very nice of her. We bought them all between us-but man, that kind of windfall wreaked havoc on the budget.
