So, what would you say to a friend, 46 years old, 5 kids, 4 miscarriages, rough last pregnancy ... told you she was pregnant again?

Congratulations!!! of course..
But then the ladies here are special. It seems few and far between in real life to find people who wouldn't lecture or "flip out" out of concern over the mother's health.
The only thing to do with those is to let them adjust to the news and see if they won't come around. Though sometimes you might need to point blank tell them that their comments are hurtful.

I'd let her know that I'm overjoyed and rejoicing in the gift of this new little life and that I'll be storming heaven on behalf of her intentions and this little one. And then I'd probably ask if there was some kind of tangible physical help I could offer her.

Thanks everyone! I needed that!
We learned we were pregnant about a month ago and I've gone from joy, to fear, to peace, to anguish. I want to be joyful. I love this dear baby already. I'm just so dreading the comments. That's why I came here first!

I think I needed some encouragement. My husband and I just keep thinking that maybe God has a plan in all of this (of course He does!). I fear because I am older and with the last pregnancy I was SO tired all the time. I know my doctor is going to have a fit. I worry because my DH actually mentioned maybe we should put the kids in school. I feel guilty because I'm afraid to tell my family - I really don't want to face their remarks. I don't think they know how hurtful they are.
So, thank you for your kind words and prayers. That is the best thing right now. I feel like I just put on some armor and I'm a little more ready to face the lions!
