Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So, I'm cleaning...(a rare event, but it's happening)...and I run across an old, faded nylon U.S. flag. I somehow can't imagine burning it to dispose of it. I feel uncomfortable sticking it in the trash bin. It can't be flown - it's too faded and stained.

What do you do with old U.S. flags?

Do you have an American Legion (I think is the group) that will dispose of old flags? Ah yes, they're listed here.. Flag Disposal

A local Boy Scout troop might be interested in putting together a flag retirement ceremony . I'm sure the American Legion would work with the SM on having the boys participate, and also teaching them about flag etiquette in general.I wouldn't be surprised if this counted toward the Citizenship in My Country MB.

Peace,
Nancy

Boy Scouts. Definitely. They have very nice, reverent retirement ceremonies.

I think the concern was the *nylon* which will melt more than burn and is noxious when it does burn.. I thought that perhaps other organizations would have alternative ways of disposal.
