Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am looking for a pretty apron to buy my mother for Mother's Day...
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a nice etsy shop or other favorite place on line, or if anyone has seen a really nice one lately.

Also, I am looking for gift ideas for my MIL.

What have been your favorite MD gifts to give or receive?

I need gift ideas, too. We tend to do the same old boring things for my mom and MIL every year. My mom can only read e-books (she has a Kindle) and that seriously limits my gift-giving for her. I don't like giving her a gift cert to Amazon and then telling her which book I think she should buy with it.

I don't like getting MD gifts, unless they are homemade. I prefer the gift of time with my family, with no outside commitments.

My favorite Mother's Day so far was several years ago, when we did a day trip to Gettysburg. I am really hoping to repeat that trip or go to Harpers Ferry this year. I have no idea what to do if the weather is bad! (Newseum? Marine Corps Museum in Quantico? Phillips Collection? If we're indoors, I have to balance personal preferences with Child Annoyance Indices...!)

Spa day! OK it was an anniversary gift but it was FABULOUS. Massage, facial, manicure and pedicure and wash cut and style to my hair. WOW. But that might be a little pricey.

A book is always appreciated --gift cards are nice.

I like the aprons at Catholic Embroidery. I am hoping to get one for one of my daughter's as a birthday gift.

Oh, spa day! I would love one of those. I wish my mom liked that sort of thing.

My mother's birthday is also in May (wouldn't you know), and I have planned to kidnap her that day and do all her favorite things... out for lunch, thrifting at all her favorite consignment stores.... I'm even smuggling in a couple of my sisters from out of town to surprise her.
But that still leaves MD.

Christine, the aprons look really cute- especially the ribboned ones. I like the "Catholic Cuisine" logo.

I was also thinking of going to a place like Portrait Innovations and having her picture taken with the kids. I don't know that that would necessarily be "fun", though, with my crew.

Melinda - going to have the pictures taken may not be fun, but the result would be a precious gift to your mother, I"m sure. Maybe you and the children could make or decorate a frame for the picture as well. Or do you have a picture of your mother's mother that you could get restored, blown up, framed?

Peace,
Nancy

I saw in the Vera Bradley catalog that they have a nice apron with matching recipe card box. I couldn't get the VB page up to link to- but the catalog says it comes in several different colors.

Shutterfly
has a lot of special deals right now for Mother's Day. You can create photo calendars for half off.

Also, you can create 3 photo greeting cards and only pay shipping for those. My total cost for making a Father's Day card and two
Mother's Day cards was $1.07! I put lots of pictures on each one, and they turned out really cute. It was cheaper than buying them at the dollar store.

The code is CARDS4MOM

I have an apron from Boojiboo on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/Boojiboo) that I really enjoy! I'm wearing it now, in fact.
Until you posted this, I hadn't thought of getting one for my Mama for mother's day, but I think I will. I've given them successfully as gifts to friends though!

Last year for Mother's Day, I got my MIL a gift card to the Walgreen's photo center, since that's where she likes to purchase photos.

For a birthday, I purchased some lovely Catholic earrings for my Mom from the "Catholic Jewelry" shop on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/catholicjewelry).

This is the shop I like, but she does custom orders. You can check out all her custom jobs and original designs here. There are 4 or 5 pages of original designs. I have one of her aprons and it is still like new even though I've been rough with it. I cannot rave enough about her aprons and skirts. Some of them are just too adorable.

My MIL loves to recieve flowers.. especially red roses.

I think it was her 50th birthday we managed to send red roses. But then for her 60th birthday.. the 2 boys (out of three) that were local were taking her out to dinner.. so I called around and found a local florist that would make a custom order that met the minimum for delivery.. and had delivered to her a corsage to wear from her oldest son who couldn't be there.. plus a small bouquet that filled out the order for getting delivery.

Check out these cute ideas at Martha Stewart. I think the "World's Best Mom" template is something that a dad could easily do with little ones .

Love,
