I'm not going to be able to to make the IHM Conference here in NOVA. I missed it last year too. I can make the non-Catholic NOVA conference, I'd really like to look at some Catholic curriculum and hear a few good talks this year.
I found a website listing most of the conferences this summer and started checking them out. I actually I even looked at Denver and Minnesota because then I could visit MaryM and Paula!! But then I "travelocitied" the flight cost....
But I saw that there's a CHAPLET conference in Southern NJ on April 10th. It's a 3 1/2 hour drive, so I'm not sure if I could swing it with our family activities, but I was wondering if any of you ladies knew anything about this conference?

I'm going! I've never been before, but all the ladies in my group talk about how wonderful it is every year, so I'm going to take the plunge.
So, Maryan, I think you should come to and go out to dinner with me and the ladies from my group (and maybe MichelleQ?) after the conference

Now that would be incentive Lindsay.
Do your friends use the words "practical and inspiring" when describing the speakers and "plentiful" when describing the vendors?

I'll be there and yes Lindsay I am going to be joining you all for dinner!
Maryan, this is a very nice conference --one of my favorites. I am hoping to be able to slip away from my vendor table to hear a few talk myself.
Here's the schedule:
10 a.m. - Carole Breslin, “Preparing Your Children for the World Beyond Home Schooling”
11:15 a.m. - Susie Lloyd, “A Merry Go Round Soul in a Roller Coaster World”
1:15 p.m. - Laura Berquist, “Implementing a Classical Education in Your Family”, with tips for large families
2:30 p.m. - Diane Toler, “Teaching Special Education at Home”

Thanks for the opinions and the schedule Michele! Susie's title sounds like me. I would love to hear Laura Berquist speak. I can't believe I've only just *read* her thoughts since she's such a common speaker! I don't think I know Carole or Diane.
Hmmm...

Oh, doesn't this sound nice!
The timing is not so great for me - but maybe something will work out. I'm so glad that conferences like this one are available around the country. (Denver's tempting...but I can't drive there in a day. )

LOL! Nancy when you look at all the links to all the conferences, you really start wishing everything was in driving distance. I was trying to justify in my mind (and to my dh's mind) that a trip to Denver or Minnesota would be like a homeschooling retreat for me rejuvenate, face the new year, etc. But when the costs were getting far and above $300 for the entire trip --without the purchase of a single book -- I knew it wasn't going to fly. And neither was I.
Driving 8 hours total in one day is doable, but my dh's schedule always has things pop up!! So hoping... because even just two of those speakers sounds worth it.

Hmmm, this has been off my radar though we are close by. We are supposed to have company that weekend but I'll talk to dh.
Someone who has been before . . . can nursing babies come with moms? Is the vendor hall open to families? If my dh is there with all three kids while I'm hearing talks what could he do? Are there a lot of vendors?
And where's dinner, Lindsay?

Is anyone heading to IHM in NOVA this year? Perhaps we need a separate thread to organize a meet-up?

Susan,
I don't know what the "offical" policy is but I have seen babies and families there.
The vendor hall is about the size of a basketball court filled with vendors and at the back there's a cafe area. So your dh could shop and sit and eat. There's lawn area outside too and that time of year the weather always seems to be nice.
Number of vendors, maybe 30 or so? Not sure but I do remember Emmanuel Books having a very large display. I know Margot (Hillside Education) will be there as well.
There's a contact e-mail at the bottom of the conference page and I'm sure if you e-mailed them they'd be happy to answer your questions.

Thanks, Michelle. Are you having your conference this year? Care to give me you totally unbiased comparison of the two?

I'm thinking of doing both or either...time will tell what I can get to, as things (like the stomach flu ) seem to pop up at the last minute every time.

No, we're not having our conference this year.
I don't know that I can adequately compare them as I always attend as a vendor so my perspective and experience is different but the Chaplet people are wonderful, I can say that!

I am going but not as a vendor (they still won't let me in), and I am looking forward to as fun and relaxing weekend.

Just to update: I got an e-mail a few days ago that stated "Only children 10 and older and nursing infants are admitted."

Oh I know, I couldn't resist! She is obsessed with having curls (her hair is straight as can be).

I was too tired to go this morning. I registered, but wasn't up for a 3 1/2 hour trip up and then back. We just got back from an 8 hour trip on Tuesday... and my son had a basketball game that he really wanted me to see. So I stayed home. Sorry I missed! Hope you all enjoyd it. It will be online conferencing for me this year.

That is the plan! I'll be staying with some dear friends in VA and plan to be there with my teens and baby. Can't wait, it has been 5 years since I've been to the IMH conference.
