Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I found this quite interesting and haven't seen this posted here already but I found this article on the back of our local newspaper, originally from The NY Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/01/us/01homeschool.html?scp=1 &sq=german%20asylum&st=cse

How blessed we are by our freedoms!

Yes! We are indeed incredibly blessed! Let us never take for granted our blessed freedom to educate our children, most especially in matters of our beloved Faith! Thank you for sharing this Kathryn!

Yes, the reporter managed to discuss homeschooling for reasons of faith without making the family sound like part of a weird fringe movement. Very refreshing.

There was a program on TV here in Germany about this family and another homeschooling family who had to leave the country. A representative from the german school system was a guest speaker. He made very poor arguments for his(the States') case and the very popular Commentator of this late night program, Gunther Jauch, was evidently supportive of homeschooling rights and more or less ridiculed the present german system and especially the enforcement of these laws! In public! On german TV! This was one of the best PR moves for the german homeschooling movement.

I recently read about a mother of 8 who was put in jail because she kept her 9 yr. old son out of s#x ed. Can you imagine?

Thank you so much for posting this article!   I remember reading about this family a few months ago, but I haven't seen the outcome that they were granted asylum.   Wonderful news!   I can just imagine how many more families just like them live in fear.   I'll be adding all these German home schooling families to my prayers.   Wouldn't it be great if Pope Benedict would address this issue - even if it's just making this one of his monthly prayer intentions for next year.
