Dh and I will be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary later this week. We will be spending one night at a local b&b - very close to home so if Gramma has any trouble with the baby I can run home and take care of her. We have NEVER spent the night away before! :) I am very excited. He thought of this on his own and made the reservations. He went ahead and told me so I could re-arrange kid plans for the night.

Any suggestions on what I could do for him? With moving and dh already splurging on the room, finances are tight. Would the overnight getaway (plus dinner out) be considered a 'gift' for both of us? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Our family would consider the night away a gift for both of us (I think, we've never done it either, lol!). But Nique's right, my dh would love new "pajamas" on me...and, um, the rest of the "gift" that would follow...ummmm...

Okay, I get the drift...and well, um, I've got that covered... I was thinking something else?? I don't know what, but something for him? I guess the overnight and nice dinner out should cover it. I am SO excited about this - he reserved the bridal suite even! :)

I'll bet your dh would appreciate it if, in the interest of keeping things romantic, you didn't fret about the children and try to keep the conversation about shared interests other than your beautiful children. I know my dh appreciates some times that are just about *us* (although the children certainly are pretty much about *us* .

Happy Anniversary and I hope you have a lovely time away!

Peace,
Nancy

The bridal suite! Looks like he's thinking what we're thinking

My dh always needs new button down shirts for work, so I would probably wind up getting him something like that - something useful but nice... I wish I could remember what I did get him for our 15th, it was only a few months ago!

My dh did this last year.

My gift to him was a jar of massage oil I blended and a great back rub that evening.

Happy Anniversary!

maybe you can make him a cd of your favorite love songs, if any? or write him a poem or a love letter?

oh, and CONGRATS and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!

dh did this on our 17th anniversary as that's when we had the $$ for it, and he bought me pajamas as a gift!

oh yes.. take the "atmosphere" with you.. can you use candles or would that set off the smoke alarm? maybe just one of the reed diffusers of scent? soft music, etc.

No suggestions, Lisa -- I've been racking my brains over the same thing! Our 20th is next week, and we're going away for two nights (same thing: we've NEVER both been away overnight since we had kids -- funny how 16 years of children really doesn't seem all that long!).

I think the best gift you could give him is just a night of undivided attention, relaxed and happy and not worried about the kids. I know that that would probably top my husband's list of things I could do for him -- I have fewer, and older, children than you do, but it seems I'm always distracted, at least until really late at night, when I become comatose. So, although I am looking for something more concrete to give him, too, because 20 years is a long time to put up with me, I'm really concentrating on designating those two days as a time when there's nobody but him in my life.

Have a wonderful, carefree time together. Happy anniversary!

Sally

Happy anniversary, Lisa!
I like Stef's cd idea. My dh has done that for me on Valentine's day and I play that cd frequently.
How about strawberries, champagne, and chocolates?
Have a wonderful time!

Lisa, my husband loves when I give him hand or foot massages, "facials", head rubs, or any massage in general. I will give him "gift certificates" (that I make)----ha ha. I have been doing this since the beginning of our marriage. It is completely free! And it is what they want most-----your undivided attentive loving affectionate total self.

I agree with the other ladies about a "gift" of kid- and stress- and work- free discussion for an evening or two. Finding those interesting things to talk about that you both have in common!, but do not get worked up or agitated over (that can happen so easily for us, falling into that, and that derails the whole mood sometimes). Of course, not being fake. But making a conscious effort to avoid negativism. I, for one, *have* to make that conscious effort, and it makes a huge difference to him.

How about a gift card to a restaurant for a future date (which gives something to look forward to....) or a nice men's fragrance or after shave, if he likes that, or a CD of romantic or relaxing music?

Oh NINA!!!!!!! Perfect!! When we were dating, he used to wear a specific aftershave that I adored. Since children, he's been splashing on cheap 'afta' LOL!! I LOVE when he nuzzles the baby after he shaves and I smell his cheap aftershave on her during the day....how nice it would be to get him some of the stuff he used to wear! Brilliant idea!! THANK YOU!
