Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thought you ladies might be interested in this. Our parish is having sung Sunday Vespers during Lent, with meditations on the Seven Last Words of Jesus delivered by my husband, who's a theologian at Belmont Abbey College (and a former Anglican priest). He's very kindly given me permission to post his meditations each week on my blog, and the first one is up.

Of course my opinion is totally unbiased, but I think he's super! Seriously, if last night's meditation is any indication, it's going to be a very interesting and moving series.

You can read it here.

I included a link to DivineOffice.org, which offers the Liturgy of the Hours -- I think the link will take you to today's readings, rather than last night's, but it would be very easy to pull up Vespers if you wanted the whole context. Otherwise, it's just a good general Lenten meditation.

Don't want to blow my own blog horn -- I just thought it would be good to share this lovely parish devotion with our online community.

Sally
