Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you have difficulty saying no to outside activities? I think I finally just turned a corner. I said no to a very enriching book club activity I had the opportunity to take. I just can't take on more than school, keeping house, shuttling kids to music and sports practices, choir, and raising children this year. I have realized my limit ... this year. I've worn myself out before trying to keep up with everyone else who seems to be able to do "it all." This year is not my year and thankfully, I'm recognizing it now instead of grinding myself, my family, and my home into the ground.

We only have one vehicle, so that makes it a lot easier.

I'm really feeling this fourth pregnancy, too. It's made me much more aware of my limitations. Still, there are things that I wish I could do...especially with the parish. I just have to accept that that season will come.

Although, you may want to check out the discussion of Simplicity Parenting in the Book Forum if you haven't already. Chapter 5 is about over-scheduling outside activities.

You know what, Tina? I have learned. Oh, how I have learned. And believe me, I am more of a No-girl, than a Yes-girl. I do find myself feeling that I have to apologize for it constantly..... But the reality and LIFE is what it is, and sometimes you can only strain against it for so long as a mother of a large fam! If YOU fry.....everyone else is left in the wake of your breakdown.

So, learn to be CONFIDENT (HA---my word for '10 ) in your ability to judge what is prudent for your current situation. Things may always change...."But for *NOW*...for the present time, this is what I think I must do------or not do----, to preserve fidelity to the Vision, to my Duty, to my overall Mission (which involves the big picture, and what I am called to ultimately through my vocation)....." That's what I have to tell myself, anyway, to push through....That, and I bounce almost *everything* off of my husband (who is always considering how I and the children are functioning).   He's often a Yes-man when I would least expect it, so than I know: it's a prodding to consider that perhaps God wants me to do this anyway.

Yes, but more so for my older kids than for myself now. I have finally managed to untangle myself from almost all of my outside commitments (I still help moderate our Catholic homeschool online group). But I find it hard to balance staying home enough for my sanity and for my little kids and getting out enough for my extroverted older kids who want to do everything.

I just decided to put up a quote for my computer when I turn it on:

In order to home school, I have to be home
