I'm thinking it would be fun to get some tv series on dvd to watch, especially during this time of year when it gets dark so early...maybe an episode after dinner kind of thing. Anyone have any favorites? I think we'll start with the Little House series, and then maybe the Waltons...that should hold us for a while...any other ideas?

Oh my goodness, I loved Quantum Leap!!! Uh, why don't you try Peggy Sue? It might sound a little better. May have to consider that one! So far we have enjoyed episodes of Robin Hood, the Lone Ranger and the Donna Reed Show.

That was one of my favorite television moments EVER. I distinctly remember our whole family laughing about it for days!

We have been watching MacGyver. My son LOVES it. We are also huge Stargate fans.
ETA: Not the new Stargate spinoff! Just SG-1 and Atlantis.

I love Emergency. My kids really enjoy Gilligan's Island. We get them out of the library a few times a year.

Strangely, my dd LOVES episodes of the I Love Lucy series. Definitely classic TV comedy.
I adore Northern Exposure - hilarious and erudite at the same time. And who can resist seeing a real-life trebuchet on TV?

No one has mentioned my husband's favorite, Green Acres - not my personal fave, but he loves it!
Here's another vote for the Muppets! (Many libraries have Muppet DVDs, by the way, and Netflix does, too.)

We were just talking about "Early Edition" tonight. We loved watching the reruns a few years ago on TV. It is about a young man who gets "tomorrow's newspaper today" and tries to prevent the disasters that he reads about. We really enjoyed that program. The first 2 seasons are on dvd and Netflix has it!

We love The Carol Burnett show, we usually fast forward to the skit scenes. My personal favorite: Tim Conway as the dentist (who accidently gives himself the novacaine) and Harvey Korman as the patient (who couldn't stop laughing!). Did you know that Tim Conway did/said everything ad lib?
God bless,
Mary-NY

Mine, too! They used to have yearly specials and would show that scene. I also liked Carol as Scarlett O'Hara, wearing the draperies (including the rod!) as a dress.

Not one of my boys can sit and watch an episode of "I Love Lucy" without cracking up- and the range in age from 21 down to 5! It is my all-time most favorite tv show.
I guess I am a fan of "old" tv, because in addition to thirding Lucy, I would second "Leave It To Beaver."
I was curious, and googled tv shows on dvd. I got this site which looks to have hundreds of shows. And with just a quick perusement, I don't think I have heard of the majority of them.
God Bless,
Stacy in MI

I have to second MacGyver, especially for the boys. We're getting ready to try Little House.

"Here's a story, of a man named Brady..."
My oldest fell in love with the Brady Bunch at age 3. My middle girl loves The Three Stooges (or Stoogies as she calls them). They've also enjoyed The Munsters.
In the Chicago area we have two channels (MeTV and MeToo) that only play old shows. One is dedicated to comedies with everything from Andy Griffith to Roseanne. The other one does dramas with everything from Dragnet to Rockford Files. Since we ditched our cable and switched to antenna, they have been a welcome change from Disney and Nickelodeon.
