I'm hard pressed to choose a favorite but do you have a favorite movie version of A Christmas Carol? Why is it your favorite?

Today we watched the 1999 made for TV version with Patrick Stewart and really enjoyed it! The scene at the end when Scrooge lets out his first laugh...worth the whole watch .

Love,

Angie, first choice would be the George C. Scott version, followed very VERY closely by the Muppets version!

That one's our favorite! We just watched it again a few nights ago.

I can't say for sure because I don't have access to any of the others.. but I LOVE the Muppets version. It's very true to the story line.. just adjusting for using the Muppets (like there's the Marley brothers so that Statler and Waldorf can be them).. And the narration of Gonzo (as Charles Dickins) and Rizzo make the story more accessible for younger kids.. their banter explains some of the language and they give the kids permission to decide that it's too scary in parts (they leave during the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Be because it's "too scary") and Michael Caine as Scrooge is outstanding. You have no doubt of his scrooginess at the beginning but you can see the visits of the Ghosts working on him.

And the music just makes it fun.

Love, love , love Scrooge with Albert Finney. It a BBC musical, the score is awesome! It was made in the 70's and was very well done.

Here is a link if anyone is interested, thank you very much! thank you very much!

(thank you very much is a song from the movie, we sing it all the time. )

We watched the Patrick Stewart version a few days ago. Still prefer the George C. Scott, though my family are big Patrick Stewart fans. I didn't particularly like the script for that version.

The 1951 version called "Scrooge" with Alistair Sim. Awesome.

Our all time favourite is Scrooge (I think 1969 or 70?) with Albert Finney, it is musical and it really warms our souls!

I have to say that I really enjoyed the new one that came out on the big screen recently, just a shame they released it early Nov, you might be hard pressed to find it now on the big screen...

I don't know which one I love best, but I definitely dislike the new version with Jim Carrey. It was filled with intense, scary scenes...unrelenting. I kept thinking it would improve, but it never did. We should have walked out...the kids were really frightened by it and spent a good part of the movie hiding under their coats.
It was disappointing to say the least, especially since I had asked a few people who had seen it if it had any scary or disturbing scenes, and they said, "No." I have no idea what movie they saw, but it sure wasn't the one we went to!

I strongly recommend avoiding this version.

Yes, the critics pointed this out ~ just how truly scary some of the scenes are and that it would not be suitable for the really young and there will be many who do not like that sort of intensity.

I enjoyed it because I felt that each scene created strong feelings within me, I really felt the despair of Marley, just how a lost soul would lament..I liked the feeling of nostalgia created in the scenes of Christmas Past. I noticed that nearly all the music was religious christmas music, even the Ave Maria was heard. The special effects were pretty amazing...

What I thought was disappointing was the loss of time on trying to create excitement in the chase scene with Christmas Future, totally unnecessary and I feel it was at the expense of really fleshing out the scenes that followed his conversion, which were so very important to bringing this beautiful story to a really satisifying ending.

My favorite, too. The Muppets version is also pretty high on our list.

The Albert Finney musical was always my favorite, thank you very much! I recently watched a 1930-something version on Turner Movie Classics with Gene Lockhart (as Bob Cratchit) which I liked, but not as much as the George C. scott or Albert Finney renditions. Basically , I like them all...muppets included.. a favorite of the whole family!

The one with George C. Scott is my favorite Christmas movie! Love it! I've not seen too many versions though I guess. I do like the Muppets one though, :). I just love George C. Scott...he plays a great grouchy old man.
